How long is this gunna take? What's going to happen.

I thought I am 13 weeks but had a scan and no heartbeat from about 9. I have has no bleeding, pain of anything. I need to ring a dr tomorrow (private scan) and I have no idea what's gunna happen to me next? How long before I get an appointment and what exactly is going to happen to me?

peppa I am so sorry. Missed miscarriage is a cruel beast. Your GP should refer you to the nearest Early Pregnancy Unit, there is one at most large hospitals. It's worth Googling to find out whether in fact you need a referral or if you can self refer. A lot of them work on a first come first scanned basis rather than appointments and will be busy after a weekend so get there early and take something to read. If you need a GP referral the out of hours service might fax something across for you so you can be seen tomorrow.
When a foetus measures bigger than the 6/7 week stage but has no heartbeat they should offer you management immediately, without needing another scan at 1-2 week intervals. There are three options - expectant management (waiting for natural miscarriage), medical ( taking tablets and pessaries to empty the uterus) or surgical, under local or general anaesthetic. It's a case of deciding which seems least-worst to you. The Miscarriage Association will give more details on all three options, and I suggest you have a read of the "tips for coping" thread on here, which gives various experiences.

Thank you. I've read through the tips and they are very helpfull. I'm scared now tho. I think I've massively underestimated this. The fetus is measuring 9 weeks. I think I want a surgical one? Can I ask for what I want? I just want to wake up and it all be over with.
This is an utter nightmare

My story was similar to yours. I should have been 12 weeks but no heartbeat from 9.

I was offered the 3 options as explained above and chose the surgery - ERPC. It was an easy procedure, over in a day and I went home and rested.
I didn't have any pain and hardly any bleeding although some ladies on here have had retained tissue and had to go back to have it checked.

I would go straight to a walk in EPU if you have one.

Thank you. I saw my dr today and have an appointment Friday morning for another scan. I stressed I wanted it all "over with" that day and want the procedure you had. Will they do it that day? Or will I have to come back? I don't want to be waiting nearly 2 weeks for this to all be over I just want to move on and feel like I can compleatly when the managment is done.

I don't think you will be able to have it done that day as you have to be nil by mouth for a certain number of hours ? They should be able to book you in and give you a definite date though.

Just here to hold your hand "peppa" I found that the surgery was the best option for the two times that I had a miscarriage given that I had been spotting for some time and I didn´t think I could cope with the situation for much longer. Actually I didn´t feel brave enough to go through what could be pain passing everything naturally and I have so much respect for the women that go through that. The actual surgery itself was not as bad as I thought, they put some pessaries in to get things going and then they give you general anesthetic where you wake up after what feels a second and the surgery has been done. It feels like a quick closure to what is a really devastating time. Be kind to yourself. I will be thinking about you x
