Is this the start of miscarrying?

I'm so worried this is the start of a miscarriage.
I'm 10 weeks today, (second pregnancy) have had sharp pains in the left side for probably weeks but have put it down to wind!
This evening, think it started earlier today really. Have felt like I'm about to start my period! the cramping/sort of dull ache.
Checked and have a light, brown colored discharge.
Phoned the early pregnancy unit who said the only thing I can do is go to A&E! (Have a toddler so can't just go now) but did say it's more positive that it's brown - old blood.
Will phone the Midwives when open at 08:30 tomorrow for the hour. (Or should I go to A&E? it seems dramatic when it's only discharge rather than blood and if I go will they be able to scan me?)
So worried this is the start of losing my baby. Also have a lower backache and the odd sharp pain on the left-hand side.
From googling! it seems it can be normal and all will be ok but have also read where it's also been the start of losing the baby for others.
I know no-one can tell me here.
Please can anyone let me know what happens now? Will the Midwife/GP take a blood test to check still pregnant? and if so how long for the results? Or will I be booked for an early scan? and if so is it only a day or two generally? (I'm stressed with the shock of finding brown discharge following the cramps and didn't have any colored discharge, blood loss etc. with my 1st pregnancy -so no brown discharge as normal with uterus stretching etc).
Sorry for people that may read this and are going through / have gone through so much worse.
There's just no where I know to find information, other than googling!
This is my last chance due to age to have a baby.

Hi

Pink Sorry but I've only just come across your post. I hope that you've got some medical advice. I started my mc 9 days ago and I have found that the bleeding comes and goes. At the moment it has got heavier again and is really upsetting me. I would make sure you have a scan. I am due one on Tues. The last thing I want to do as it is on the same day as our first scan was due but I am paranoid that there is something still there and want to make sure everything is ok before ttc again. I am 41, this was my first and I too have felt utterly hopeless. My GP tells me not to as I am a healthy 41 year-old and there is no reason why I shouldn't go on to have a healthy pregnancy. It just feels so hard at the moment and I feel as if I am dragging myself through each day. I hope you are getting support both physically and emotionally and please don't worry about graphic posts here or swearing; we have all been through it and know what a horror show it is.

Big hugs. x

Thanks Rejjie your message to Pink was reassuring I'm 4 days in now and having the same bleeding changing between heavy and light Sad few tiny clots too!
Been reading stuff as you do and it seems I am going to pass much bigger things soon!? Have you? If you don't mind me asking?
3rd child but 1st miscarriage so have been rather shocked!

I'm also dragging myself through each day just want it all to be over but at the same time not.. Sometimes I'm ok then I find myself in tears.

Hope you're doing ok stay strong xxx

I am so so sorry PinkPP, i had my miscarriage last night in the A&E waiting room while being dragged back and forth to have blood pressure taken. It is horrible, i am 'lucky' that this morning when i had my scan they said there was no tissue left in me and the worst was over. I can't image how uncomfortable you are feeling! I hope you have a speedy recovery and you feel back to normal as soon as possible. The cramps are still awful though :(
