Any non-horrendous experiences with medical management of MC please??

After waiting a week for nature to take its course took the tablet today and got the pessaries for Sat. Just need it to be over with and didn't want the op just in case of complications (I've got a 2.5 yr old) :(
I would be 11 weeks now but scan last week showed the baby stopped growing at 5 weeks. So many horror stories about the tablets on here I'm scared of how painful it might be.

I miscarried at 20 weeks earlier this year. I was given a tablet and told to come back in two days for induction. Instead, I went into labour that night by myself at home and delivered my little girl by myself. It didn't hurt like full term labour. I was so happy to be at home in my own space. I was fine, it was the most intense experience of my life but it was fine. I think about it a lot.
You will be fine too, expect lots and lots of blood, that is normal. Good luck.

So sorry, just misread that and thought you had written non medical management. The op is fine too. In many ways, it is much easier. Just look after yourself and remember you have had a general which can make you very tired and emotional. It's funny feeling coming round and realising what has happened.

Hello OP, I had medical management for a mmc at 16weeks and was terrified that it was going to be horrendous - it wasn't. I had the tablet on a Friday and was booked into hosp the following Sunday, started bleeding and mild cramps on the Sunday morning just before going to the hospital. The bleeding wasn't massively heavy and the cramping was mild but getting progressively worse, very like contractions in early labour. Once at the hospital I was examined and cervix was already effaced so they gave me the pessary and painkillers, with the offer of gas and air should I want it. I was getting through sanitary pads quite quickly by this point but was comfortable enough to be sat on the bed reading a mag. Got up every so often to change pad, and after an hour or so felt something more substantial than just bleeding, so called mw and she was there when I passed the foetus. They put a cardboard thing on the toilet to catch anything that is passed, so she took it away for me (I didn't want to see). Had injection to speed up placenta, so that only took another 5 mins. Pain stopped straight away, bleeding continued but only like a period, and I was up and out of hospital within half hour'ish. It was a huge relief that it was all so manageable as I was geared up for something awful.

There is a good thread on here of tips for dealing with a mc - that has some good advice and other peoples experiences. Taking baby wipes was a tip I really appreciated. And chocolate.

Yes, 2 weeks ago at 12 weeks. I took the codeine tablets and the suppository painkiller I was given when I started getting cramps, and lay on the the sofa with DH, a hot water bottle and our Doctor Who DVD. After the drugs I didn't feel anything worse than bad period pains, which lasted about an hour, then they stopped and I had to go to the toilet as I started bleeding heavily and then I passed something more solid. More heavy bleeding on and off for the rest of the day but no more cramps, and no problems at night. Good luck. x

I had a medical miscarriage at 11 weeks, a week ago, it was fine. Not the best experience but not the worst. The bad period pain is ok, I managed with codeine and paracetamol but if it got worse I could have had pethadin

You will need someone for your little one for at least a day of two. I have 2 small boys, my in laws had them on the day, I found I was exhausted the next day and got no help.
I had to go into hospital for the day. I'm still tired now and it took about 4 - 5 days to not feel sore and tender. Seem to have almost finished bleeding but the first few days if I did too much I bled heavier

I would do this again if I was in the unfortunate position again

i was in the same situation as you. at 11 wks was finally told that there is no more progress and baby stopped growing at 6.5 weeks. so i opted for the tablet got the first one on a friday and then the 4 other ones (that bring the period on) on the sunday and 2 hrs later i passed the sac(wasn't painful) and bled very lightly for another 2wks. so it's just finishing now and just noticed that im ovulating again and feel so much better alltogher and my body feels a lot healthier.

im not familar how the pessaries work with assisted mc. how soon did they say ur bleeding should start?

Within a couple of hours. Gonna call the hosp tomorrow.

I have had 3 miscarriages, one at 11w where nature took its course and 2 at 20w, for which I took the tablets and then went into hospital the following day and had pessary. For both the 20w ones, I found the first stage about the same level of pain as labour at term, but I had gas and air so it was manageable. The pain was more or less constant rather than organised into contractions. Labour was 2-3 hours both times. Obviously no 'crowning' type pain as the babies were only 1lb-ish. I hope it goes as OK for you as it can do.

I had medical management a couple of years ago. It was fine. I was expecting it to be really painful after reading up on it here. I had some period pains, nothing a couple of nurofen didn't sort out. It was much easier than I'd anticipated. I didn't want erpc because I wanted to go through the miscarriage and medical management felt more natural.

I had tablets and pesseries at 20 weeks, it was fine I had no real discomfort and minimal bleeding, although it is also normal to have heavy bleeding especially if early in the pregnancy

I also had a d&c with an early mc at 8 weeks which was also fine
