What can I expect to get my period after natural miscarriage followed by an ERPC?

Hi, so, I started miscarrying naturally 4 weeks ago when I was around 9 weeks pregnant. I then had to have an ERPC 12 days ago as a scan showed I had retained tissue which hadn't come out with the natural miscarriage. I know that on average women get their period 4 - 6 weeks after a miscarriage. So, do I count from the natural miscarriage or from the ERPC? I want to start TTC straight away but am trying to be patient and wait for my first period. My hormones do feel all over the place. I have very tender breasts and y'day a tiny, tiny bit of blood. Never have I wanted my period to come so badly!!

Hi Mintie sorry to hear what you have been through, you have my sympathies.

I have had 5 miscarriages, 3 natural and 2 with ERPC. In my experience it can take a while for periods to come back, definitely up to 6 weeks. I would count your 4-6 weeks from the ERPC as it will take a while for your body to work out what has happened.

Your periods will come back, you need to be kind to yourself and rest, your hormones will indeed be all over the place for weeks yet.

Good luck with TTC.

Oh drats!! I had no idea miscarriages take so long to get over. Is it wise to wait until one period before TTC? My Dr said 2 cycles but I'm not going to follow his advice as it seems contrary to everything else I have read.

Sorry Mintie, it's a crappy business you're going through Sad

You don't have to wait at all until TTC, however the drs like you to for dating reasons if you get pregnant again straight away. I'm not sure why your dr has said two cycles - they used to tell me three Confused

I would say it is wise to wait one cycle at least, for psychological reasons if nothing else. It's natural to feel desperate to be pregnant again, but really you need to be gentle with yourself for a while and then go for it before you get on the TTC/worry treadmill again.

Thank u - wise words!! I am trying to be patient but as it took us 3 months to conceive (I know that's relatively quick), I miscarried at 9 weeks about 4 weeks ago but then am delayed by the ERPC so by the time I get my period it will have been about a 6 month period from start to finish. Time isn't on my side but I don't want to start TTC when my hormones are all over the place and then have another MC because my body wasn't ready for it. Just wish I was 13 weeks pregnant instead of 4 weeks post-MC. Big sigh....

Sorry Mintie, but as you say 3 months is quick. You will be pregnant again, don't worry!
