Progesterone, BFN and wondering when period/bleed will start??

Will try and keep this short as I have a tendancy to ramble on..... had 3 MC last year, 2 at 4 weeks and 1 at 8 weeks, tests with NHS consultant at RMC showed no problems. Had a private appointment too as I wanted a second opinion and he confirmed the same. Both recommended cyclogest twice a day and low dose aspirin for my next pregnancy as 'it won't do any harm' I already have 2 DC both of whom were conceived easily in my early 30s (am now 41). With my 3 losses, I also conceived straight away, they were just not sticky ones. So, we get down to it, and as with my other pregnancies, I 'just know' a week after conception that I'm pregnant and have a whole load of symptoms. So, I start my progesterone and aspirin and 2 weeks later when AF would be due, symptoms all gone, BFN but no period has turned up. I have read that progesterone can delay your period/bleed and just wanted to know if anyone else had had a similar experience with the progesterone and how long did it take for your cycle to start again. Thank you for reading x

Hi Rosepip, sorry for your losses. I have taken progesterone previously to 'bring on' a period - took it for about 10 days then stopped and got my period soon after. I can't remember exactly how long after stopping but think it was a few days, definitely less than a week. The progesterone will stop you having a period because (as far as I know) it maintains the lining of your uterus so you will only bleed once you've stopped taking it. Just call your doctor and I'm sure they'll explain it better than me! Good luck with it all - hope you get the outcome you want soon x

Thank you for responding teaandchocolate, my GP doesn't know much at all about progesterone so I tend to find my answers on here!! Everything I Dr Google about it though tends to lead to IVF stuff which doesn't apply to me though we are considering going down that road if my next cycle doesn't work. Makes sense what you say so hopefully my cycle will start again in the next few days. Thanks again x

you're welcome. good luck with it all - it is all so confusing and there's so much conflicting advice - I am also guilty of self-diagnosing regularly! I actually meant call the private doctor that you said you went to see - agree that GPs (well mine anyway) seem to know hardly anything about miscarriages and are generally pretty unsympathetic and unhelpful! x

Bleeding started today, 48 hours after stopping the progesterone. At least it wasn't delayed too long and I can be getting on with my next cycle x
