Have I lost my baby?

Looking for some advice, although I'm pretty sure I know what's happened. I am 6+3 today, but started bleeding on Friday night. At the time it was just (TMI sorry) a bit brown when I wiped. By Saturday afternoon, it was still brown, but was enough to have stained my pants and gone through to my tights. I just kept hoping it would stop, but wasn't unduly worried as I'd read lots of other posts. By Sunday, it was redder, with mucus and some clots. This morning, I woke up with light cramps, and it's more like a proper period (although light by my standards). This afternoon, a (really TMI...) massive piece of tissue came out - maybe three cm by five and half a cm thick. Bleeding has slowed a bit, but still some clots/tissue and light cramps. I went through one towel today. Sorry to give so much graphic detail, I'm just worried and wanted to be precise.

I spoke to the GP on the phone this morning, and she said "it's probably a miscarriage" (I welcomed her matter-of-fact approach, although it did feel a bit blunt over the phone). I'm booked in at the EPU tomorrow morning, but can't face the inconclusive results and another week of waiting. I feel so heartless for hoping it's straight bad news, rather than a delay. I just can't see a positive outcome.

Has anyone else had anything similar? Sorry again for the level of detail.

I'm afraid it does sound like a miscarriage, I'm really sorry :(
Often people can have some bleeding and things be ok, but to pass a piece of tissue that size is not likely to be good news.

This does sound very much like a miscarriagge I had at about 7 weeks.

It is definitely worth seeing of the early pregnancy unit at your local hospital will see you, just to put your mind at rest.

At the stage you are at the baby is the size of a grain of rice. The tissue you have passed is endometrial tissue.
You could have bled from a haematoma not necessarily connected to the pregnancy.
It is likely that this has been a miscarriage, but you won't know for sure till the scan.
Look after yourself and I really hope things are ok

Firstly, thank you all so much for taking the trouble to reply, my husband and I really appreciate it, especially from those who have been through painful experiences. I am so lucky to have a wonderful other half, as soon as he came home from work, I updated him, and his first thought was to tell me he loves me. He then took me out for a meal at our local, not to ignore what's happening, but to make the waiting until tomorrow pass a bit more quickly. We spent time talking, both about this, but also normal, mundane things (and a bit of gossip from work!). I know that sounds horribly trivial, but the perspective helps, especially as we found out today that a good friend passed away suddenly on Saturday. He was only 35, and leaves a wife and 4 yo daughter. Life's a bit rubbish for me today, but nothing like it is for her.

Thank you again for your replies, I guess we're waiting for the inevitable, but I feel so reassured and accepting, and from reading other threads, hopeful for the future. And you never know, there might be a miracle... Jxx

Well, we got the news we were expecting. The EPU did another pregnancy test and it was negative. I'm still glad we didn't have to play the waiting game. It was our first pregnancy, and I'm hopeful we'll get another go. I hope if there is another girl in my position that they will take comfort in my experience of the EPU. The nurses there were so lovely and supportive. Obviously we wanted a different outcome, but they gt my practical approach; they were also prepared to stay and talk as long as we wanted. Big up for the lovely NHS ladies, you've really helped. Jxx

I'm sorry it was not the good outcome. The fact that you were expecting it never makes it any easier. But I'm glad you were treated well at the EPU. The fact that you had a negative test is a good thing, it means it is probably all over now and your body will be back to normal and good to go again very soon. You will get another go and you have every chance of next time being luckier.

I had a mc in dec 09 and then fell pg again in may 10 all went well and now have a 13 month old ds. Don't give up hope it will happen. I was so scared at first , would I ever carry a child full term and give birth to a live baby. In fact he was born at 42 weeks the stubborn little mite. All the best for the future xx
