Can I just turn up at an early pregnancy unit?

I have started bleeding. The doctor says they can't do anything until Monday because the EPU's are shut.

There is one open tomorrow in Leeds which is about 2 hours on the bus from me. Can I just turn up there for a scan?

Thanks

how many weeks are you?

i'm going to be honest here, and say that, sadly, in the early days there really isn't anything they can do if you are miscarrying :(
in which case waiting til Monday won't "hurt" although I do appreciate that you need to know what is going on (have been there myself, so do honestly know how you feel)

some EPU's you can just turn up, others want you to have a referral... you could call them before you leave and check?

8 weeks. I do not want to spend all weekend not knowing if I am losing my baby.

When I landed up in the EPU, I was admitted via A&E. I think you have to be referred by your midwife/GP/A&E, but different hospitals have different policies.

Also at my local hospital, the EPU still only scans Monday-Friday. They only do emergency scans for patients over 26 weeks (or thereabouts).

I do hope you're OK. It's such a frightening time. If you're worried, please phone your midwife, or go to your nearest A&E or walk in centre. Please don't put yourself under the stress of a 2 hour bus journey. You need to rest.

Be strong x

Kayzr, I would call them and check - that's a long bus ride to contemplate if they just turn you away.

I've been there (twice) and wouldn't wish it on my worst enenmy. I also had very heavy bleeding in my 3rd pg but the baby was fine.

I really hope all is ok for you.

I had a bleed at 12 weeks after a light workout. It was all fine in the end but waiting for the scan was horrible. What they did tell me though is that i should stay in bed for a few days. So the best thing you can do is try to take it easy until monday. There are so many of us who were in this situation and now have happy and healthy babies! Good luck!

I know you don't :(

it would be wise to ring them first though.

is it heavy bleeding?

I've had one miscarriage at 8 weeks (ish) but also bled around the same kind of time (between 7 and 9 weeks) with all 3 of my healthy pregnancies... so it doesn't necessarily mean you'll lose the baby

I have managed to book a private scan for 1pm tomorrow. Its still a fair old trek away but I need to know.

Hiya Hun.

How near to Chesterfield are you? If you up from Leeds it's no good but if down it may be helpful. Their why is open 7 days week. Might not be able to scan you but they can certainly check you over. However if your bleeding heavy just go straight to a and e. Just going through this myself so do know you feel genuinely.
