chemical pg discovered at 12 week scan

Hi ladies. Had my 12 week scan yesterday (2nd pregnancy; first ended in mmc last year) only to discover that it had more than likely been a chemical pregnancy (absolutely nothing to be seen on screen). The night before the scan i'd had cramping and blood loss so was expecting the worst anyway. What i don't understand though, is that when i read about chemical pregnancy, everyone says they had a couple of +ve tests, followed by a -ve, and then their period a few days later, so had they not tested it would have just seemed like a slightly late period. If my loss was so early (probably before 5 weeks), then why did my body not do anything about it for around 7 weeks? Slightly baffled. Anyone had a similar experience?

So sorry about your loss. I have had two missed miscarriages and the second one was very similar to what you describe, empty sac and no sign of any baby ever developing. Its a terrible shock when you have been going round thinking you are pregnant all that time and quite rare for it to go as far as 12 weeks.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I wouldn't consider it a chemical pregnancy, but a mmc. Who told you it was chemical?

thanks for replying, guys. the sonographer suggested it as there was nothing at all to be seen; no baby, no sac, no nothing, just endometrium which appeared to be coming away, hence my bleeding the night before.

still can't get my head around why, both times, my body has clung on until 12 weeks before letting me know something was up. seems so cruel!

Hi
I had slight spotting 2 weeks ago now and a scan showed nothing at all. They then have started investigations into a possible ectopic. I have had a further scan and have had blood taken regularly.
Did they check all around your tubes etc?
Have they suggested taking HCG blood levels?
If you get severe pain go straight to A&E
I am with you that its horrible not knowing all the answers and being left to just get on with it.

hi lindor

doc examined me after for possible ectopic but seemed to rule it out. tubes etc checked at scan and didn't appear to show anything unusual. i'm in the midst of the 48 hours-apart blood test to check which way hcg levels are heading.

feel a bit in limbo. just want to draw a line under this so i can start again, but it will be so scary to find i'm pregnant again. destined to never ever enjoy a pregnancy i think! Sad
