Hello - Posted this in pregnancy but adviced to post here instead!

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a similar experience and had a positive outcome. I have just had a scan at 9wks and fetus has not developed enough since last scan 10 days ago and so they want me to go in for an ERCP op to remove the fetus. I am very confused because there has been some growth albeit it small from 1.5mm to 3mm but at 9 wks it should be a lot bigger and have a heart beat. However as I have had 7 scans so far and each one said something slightly different so I don't feel totally confident in the results.

I had a scan at roughly the same stage and there was no heartbeat, with mine they think the feotus had stopped growing some weeks before as it was really small. For me it was final and I miscarried that week. I know it isn't what you wanted to hear and I am sorry for your loss. Ask them to perform another scan before the op, it may be worth having a vaginal scan as well. I had one as they couldn't get good pics with a normal one

If you are sure of your dates then at 9 weeks they should see a heartbeat. As you have had 7 scans they must have been able to monitor growth and viability. So sorry it is worrying, frightening time - I have been there 8 times :-(. I don't think they would be advising an ERPC unless they were sure. When you have the op booked in you should be able to ask for one more scan just to out your mind at rest.

Wish it were easier for us all.

Sorry to hear this MsBump. I was told that the sac and foetus should grow at the rate of 1mm/day. I should also have been around 9 weeks by the time I had my ERPC. My sac grew but baby didn't.

You shouldn't be coerced into surgery though, they usually give you the option of waiting, or the medical method. You should take your time to think about this, and wait if you feel you need to. It's very hard to accept, and I really held onto the last tiny bit of hope, hoping the scans were wrong, and it was because I had a tilted uterus etc etc.

There are accounts of people's experiences on various ERPC V medical threads, it might help to read through those.

And, as Debs75 said, for peace of mind, you can request another scan before going ahead with medical or surgical option. That's what I did.

So sad you're going through this.

msbump my 3rd pg was similar. The baby had not grown properly, but the sac did. They did see a heartbeat, but it was too slow and I miscarried naturally within a week.

I don't think that there is anymore you can do for your baby, but we are here to support you and "listen" to what you have to say.

Thanks Ladies for your support and sorry to hear about your losses. Felt really lonely today.
I am not certain about dates but I know there can only be 2 possible conception dates and even if it was the latter date I would be 7 weeks. I think what they are saying is lack of growth so I suppose the dates don't seem to matter at this stage. Just feel upset and disappointed as have felt SO pregnant (inc boobs growing 3 sizes already!) and so it feels like am being cheated. Guess Nature is cruel like that sometimes. Anyway think I will have another scan but they wont give me one for 2 weeks and not sure I can wait that long.
Thanks for listening xx

Well, it sounds as though you are miscarrying naturally now, which may be easier than the hospital procedure.
So sorry for your loss. I had similar last September too. My 4th miscarriage, and second "missed miscarriage" . Nature can be cruel.
Be gentle with yourself. You may find the swing in hormones affects your moods for a few weeks. Time is a great healer. X

Luckily mine weren't all in a row, so although sad, I had children inbetween so not as bad as what some women suffer.
I think its ok to take pain killers and your Dr might arrange a scan after the bleeding stops to check the womb has emptied fully so there's no risk of infection later.
Bleeding may be a few days or up to two weeks or so and can vary between heavy or quite light.
Don't be surprised if the sadness gives way to feelings of anger, frustration or unfairness and you may find you are quick to loose your temper. These feelings will pass as you work your way through them. It's all part of the process of acceptance of what has happened and everyone grieves their own way. Again so sorry for your loss. Hugs. X
