Cyclogest (progesterone) pessaries

Hoping that one of you knowledgeable ladies can help me.

Was prescribed Cyclogest (progesterone)pessaries by my RMC after 3 MMC. Told to take once I got a BFP.

Well i just got another BFP but the information on them is not clear. They are 400mg ones should i take once or twice a day?

Would be really grateful if anyone could share their experience of these. Many thx

I would call your clinic. But my experience is that at 400mg it's one a day (usually before bedtime). Some specify the delightful preference of whether they are inserted anally or vaginally.

I wish you every success with this pregnancy.

Thank you so much for responding mrs jl especially when you are going through the horrible waiting game yourself. I really hope your pregnancy works out and the spotting is nothing (saw your thread). Fingers tightly crossed for you.

Hi OP. Its been 8 years since I used cyclogest during my IVF cycle but I remember inserting the pessaries vaginally before bedtime. I can't remember for definite how long I used them for but I'm sure it was a few weeks. Good Luck x

I was wondering why you were prescribed the progesterone, I have asked for them after 5 mc s but my consultant said I didn't need them?

Hi Irish, so sorry to hear that you have had 5 miscarriages. Consultant at local hospital RMC clinic prescribed them. All my test results came back normal but she said that she prescribes progesterone to all her "recurrant miscarriage ladies" just in case. Good luck

hi irishhope .have you tried steriod treatment.i am living in ireland and have been to the uk for the treatment of natural killer cells.they seem to think i have them starting all meds this week so hopefully it will work,their is a lot of sucess stories about it.to date i am after having 13 early mc couldnt take anymore so i demanded to be sent to the uk for more advanced testing as ireland only has the basic testing which all came back normal just thought it might be something for you to look into....

Libby - I was told to take the 400mg cyclogest twice daily, morning and night. This was for recurrent miscarriages. But I was also told to take them from 3dpo rather than waiting for positive test, so this is different from what you were told. Once started the progesterone should be continued until about 12 weeks. I hope it works for you!

Hi there. I used it twice a day during the last weeks of my twin pregnancy. I guess it worked, I had been put on bed rest at 25 weeks and my win boys were bien 10 weeks later. Good luck!

No, no-one has mentioned steriod treatment I am in N. Ireland...Where all ur tests clear here? I have just been told to take asprin from now.don't know

Hi Carly

I took cyclogest 400 with my previous. Ivf pregnancy morning and night best results if you can do them 12 hours apart so that there is never a dip in the quantity in your body. I used to wake up early put it in and then lie back down till time to get up and then when tea cooking would do the same. I had to take it till week 14 as placenta takes over by then.

I have to take it next time as had 2 natural miscarriages since the ivf baby. Hope that helps and all goes well for you

hi i was just wondering have any of you ladies tried steriod treatment for nk cells.and if you have did you find it affects your ovalation.i never had a problem getting pregnant always concieved first go .now im on all my meds and cant get pregnant if anyone has experienced this could you please let me know thanks girls....

Can anyone tell me if you need to take these Cyclogest (progesterone) pessaries before conception or only once you concieve????

caly I've heard steroids can delay ovulation - so maybe you're taking them too early. Have you tried taking them a few days later, or having a mid cycle scan to check you've ovulated before taking them? Ive also heard Prof Quenby at Birmingham prescribes them from bfp rather than ovulation, so perhaps check with your consultant whether you can do this.

thinkingpositive I think most consultants prescribe from bfp - i cant think of why you would take it earlier unless maybe you have a very short luteal phase.

thanks girls contacted my consultant had to take steriods very early to calm down the cells.this month i have to take them from ovulation to my period date ,so they cant affect my cycle .so hopefully i will have better luck this month....

thinkingpositive - I have just been proscribed these pessaries and I am taking them a few days after ovulation. My gynae tells me it is to support my LP which is only 10/11 days. If i'm not pregnant by a particular date then I'm to stop them to let my period come.

Ive had 3 miscarriages. Just started taking the pessaries this week. 400mg inserted vaginally before bed. All the lovely ladies out there that have used them when TTC - did it help you sustain the pregnancy? Tx v much in advance x

I did post-embryo transfer with an IVF pregnancy. Try popping them in the ' back door '. Less messy, they absorb better and you don't need to lie down for ages afterwards.

I think the reason for the confusion about progesterone / cyclogest pessaries is that every doctor believes something different. Some doctors say to take it during your luteal phase, some say to take it only after you are pregnant. Some doctors (including my gynae consultant) will tell you that progesterone pessaries make no difference preventing miscarriage but the research actually suggests that in recurrent miscarriage it CAN help, reducing miscarriage risk by as much as 50% in women who have had three miscarriages.

When I printed out the study that I found and took it to my doctor, I pretty much demanded that he prescribe progesterone pessaries for me in case I fell pregnant again. I'm so glad he did because I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with things going well and I truly believe it's because I took progesterone until 14 weeks. I took 400mg in the morning and 400mg at night, and alternated front and back entrance (if you get what I mean) depending on whether I would be lying down after putting the pessaries in. If I was getting up straight away I would use the back entrance.

Hi, I've been taking cyclogest from cd21 until AF turns up since July. Have noticed that AF has gone from 5 days to 3/4 and is much lighter than it used it to be, anyone else had this?

Mimi, what are you taking it for? A lot of people say mc can be linked to low progesterone, and that other signs of this include spotting before AF and light AF. I'm on them after mc at 6 weeks. and have always had very light AF. However, AF was last month nearly 10 days long, and very heavy at start. This month, although bleeding only lasted two days it was biblically heavy - have never in my life had to buy super tampons. PMS has improved, including not as sore boobs.

I've seen a few posts that suggest cyclogest does the opposite of what I thought it's for (thickening a previously too-thin lining because of low progesterone).
