Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

12 weeks pregnant bleeding on and off and just passed a clot. Doesn't look good does it?

Probably tmi in the thread title but I'd really welcome any advice / tales of other people's experiences. I'm 12 weeks pg and a scan on Monday showed a foetus with heartbeat and right sizes for dates. An earlier scan had shown a hematoma of just under 1cm and I've had spotting on and off throughout the first trimester and was warned I might have more bleeding at the scan when they found the hematoma. This morning when I went to the loo I passed a clot and am terrified this is the start of another mc. I had a mmc last summer.

The really good part of your post is that the scan showed the baby was right size for dates, and had a heartbeat. If you've had spotting on and off and an identified haematoma, you would be at risk for more bleeding so, imo, your risk of bleeding being a sign of a mc is less than a woman who habd't had any bleeding iyswim.

I'd ring the epau and ask for advice - did you have a plan from them as what to do ?

Hello reallygrumpy, I had this, constant bleeding both red and brown blood - but my hematoma was even bigger than yours. I am in Spain where their advice was TOTAL bedrest, have you been told this? It all worked out fine for me (althouth they told me I would probably miscarry) It is quite common and often the hematoma gets reabsorbed (as mine did by about 16 weeks). As your baby is 12 weeks and the correct size I think all should be well for you but I would take it easy if you can? Best wishes, it is a horrible thing to happen.

Hi grumpy sorry to hear you're having to deal with this. Just here to offer a HTH really. I'm also 12 weeks pg and have had on/ off spotting throughout, which has been mostly pink or red. It's terrifying. I haven't had my 12 week scan yet but was told at the 7 week one that there were a few pockets of blood, which might cause spotting. I was told it was fine provided it was brown, but it has all been red. Having said that, I had a week of brown sludge before I miscarried last time, so don't count any bleeding as safe. I did bleed quite a bit with DS though, so it's hard to know what to expect. Did they say where the haematoma was in relation to your baby? I'd take huge comfort in a successful 12 week scan, but wouldn't hesitate in calling the EPU for a reassurance scan. As the mw said to me last time, there's no way of knowing anything without that scan!

I have everything crossed for you. Hoping this is just a little blip and everything will be fine.

Thank you for all the kind posts. I've had a bit more bleeding today but all brown so far. I've got my 12 week scan on Monday and have been discharged by the EPU after my positive scan last Monday so I'm just going to take it v easy over the weekend and keep my fingers crossed that it's all ok on Monday.

glitterybits so sorry you're having this too, it makes what should be a happy time incredibly stressful. I hope all's ok at your scan.

Hi grumpy, just to let you know i have everything crossed for you.... and glittery (i lurk and read on recurrent buns!) good luck for yours also xx

reallygrumpy · 24/01/2011 19:06

Thanks so much for all the good wishes, the scan was fine and I'm 13wks 2d not 12wks as I'd thought. There wasn't an obvious cause of the bleeding so I've been told to take it easy.

glittery I'm really hoping your scan tomorrow goes well, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed you get good news.
