I am at the moment experiencing a miscarriage apparently but its not like my previous one at all, and i wondered if people would mind sharing their experiences so i can see im not fooling myself.

Im 5+5 and started bleeding on Sunday, not heavy but enough for a pad. I had a couple of small clots but nothing like last time at all. Today i am clear no bleeding at all execpt from my nose and gums whcih is normal for me when im pregnant.

The doc says my hormone levels are too low for the pregnancy to be viable BUT i tested this morning and i still have a faint posotive, plus with the bleeding stopped makes me think they could be wrong.

Has anyone had a similar experience. Im waiting for a call off the epu as i need to ask them this aswell but was too upset to ask last night.

I have no experience, but I would assume that the hormones for the pregnancy test would still be in your body for a few days after a miscarriage, hence the positive test

Hi Maddyd

I have just been through a miscarriage and just had an ERPC.

I would definitely go to your EPU and get assessed. I did and they did blood tests to check my HCG levels. They also did a transvaginal ultrasound scan when they found that the hormone levels were not going up normally. They do monitor you well and will carry out further HCG testing and ultrasounds as necessary to determine how your pregnancy is progressing. I think that until you have the scan it is difficult to say what the status of your pregnancy is.

I really feel for you and hope that things work out for you.

So sorry, maddyd

See if the EPU will monitor your HCG levels. If they're dropping then sadly you've miscarried.

The hormones do hang around for a few days which could explain the faint positive.

All the best.

hi I haad bleeding last week and had an internal scan the baby is still there at the moment they took blood and told me my progesterone levels werent high enough so the baby might not be viable!(what a word)
but my HCG was low on the last 2 pregnancys and I had 2 boys
I hope you get a scan or something I am thinking of you

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had 3 miscarriages between my 2 DDs and it was a terrible time (I think the times you are pregnant are even worse that the actual miscarriages, because of the intense anxiety you feel all through the pregnancy). My 3 losses were all early but physically completely different (pain-wise, symptoms etc) so it really is difficult to predict - especially as I had bleeding with all my pregnancies, even with my girls! Just to support what others have said, your hormone levels may well show a positive reading a few days after your loss; this too happened to me. On a hopeful note: although I had 3 miscarriages all the tests proved I was ok to have another child and they were right! Miscarriage is so common (I know that doesn't make it any easier to bear) but women usually do go on to have successful pregnancies. The Miscarriage Association may help - I went to group meetings for a while and met some really nice people who had the time to listen to my meanderings when I needed them! I'll be thinking of you...

maddyd - have you lost anything significant, or large clots yet? with my 2nd miscarriage i lost one large piece of tissue, as i'm sure you may remember. Then after than i had light bleeding for a few days nothing like my first miscarriage, I think that they are all different.
Even though you're only 5 months i would have thought you would have had more loss than this. Ver strange, i wouldn't count on the bleeding staying away and i would definitly keep testing, i don't want to get your hopes up, but hospitals have been known to be wrong.I hope you're holding up ok, and looking after yourself

have you managed to get a scan yet maddyd? I I had a m/c a couple of weeks ago now at 6+3 and like had light bleeding which got a bit heavier after a day or so. By the time I got my scan after two days it was pretty obvious to me as I passed a very large piece of tissue as I was about to be scanned.

I would also recommend trying to get a scan in another hospital if your local one can't do one soon enough. We are in Richmond but Kingston were going to make us wait four days, so I told my GP how upset I was and he rang around a few other places and found that St Georges in Tooting have a walk in clinic.

I just mean try to get a scan anywhere you can get to. Does not have to be your nearest hospital.

Dont think anything shows on scan before 6-7 weeks
