Convinced I am at the end of the road

I know I may be being a little dramatic, but it's how I feel.

1 mmc, then DD, 1 mmc, 1 incomplete mc. I have had 4 ERPC's. Thought AF had arrived on Saturday but was just brown spotting which has now stopped. So now convinced not only do I have a problem carrying, I also probably have Asherman's after 4 ERPC's. I am 30, DD is 2, this is not fair.

I am so sorry you are going through this, no it isn't bloody fair.

I am having a shit week too, maybe the weather (or the many pregnant people I know) are not helping.

I don't know anything about Asherman's - but I think someone on here does, maybe MummyAbroad? Perhaps speaking to her may help.

I am starting tests in Dec for recurrent MC and am scared, I don't know what I want them to tell me really. That my DD was a miracle? That my MCs have been bad luck? I just don't know. I do know that I just can't bear the thought of another MC.

Have you had tests?

What I am finding hard is people thinking that I should have got over the last MC by now (it started just under 3 months ago) yet I have cried for most of the days since I found out there was no heartbeat.

What am I trying to say to you? I don't know really apart from I hear your pain, it is shit, and I have only had 2 MCs.

I think you both know from the other threads that I have now been treated for AS and it looks it has been a complete success. (Thank god!)

I have been where you both are for the last 7 months, a string of complications following mc and no clue whatsoever as to what was going on. I can honestly say its the worst thing I have ever been through in my life, you both have my sympathies and if I can help in anyway at all please let me know.

Banana are your periods lighter than they were before your ERPC's/birth? If so, and you want to pursue testing for AS then Dr Adrian Lower in London can diagnose AS via 4D ultrasound. A consultation costs £205 and the scan costs £250. He accepts BUPA patients. His number is 0207 486 2440. Ask for his PA, Gill.

KTDace Have you read Lesley Regans book (Miscarriage - what every woman wants to know)? Lesley Regan is the head of the recurrent miscarriage clinic at St Mary's. Its a good book, very comprehensive (bit scary though, like googling you start imagining the worst!) and might help you get some questions together before testing. Also the ladies on the recurrent buns thread are an amazing source of info between them.

I can only speak from this time, as before this it was all normal. Since my ERPC, 5 weeks ago, I have had (maybe?) one period, which was clotty and brown. Barely any red. But having only been 5 weeks, no gynae will take me seriously until its been a few cycles. sigh.

The fact that you are getting some blood IS a good sign (I had none at all and its been 18 weeks since ERPC) also if your periods were normal before this ERPC that is also a good sign.

I guess you can expect the first cycle post ERPC to be abnormal too, which means you are stuck in that awful wait and see period - unless you want to throw some money at it and get a scan? A non AS gyne will not be able to diagnose via a scan by the way.

Sorry if I have asked you this before but are you charting? This can be very helpful too in speeding up diagnosis as well as giving you a chance to feel a bit more in control of whats going on.

Banana, have you been referred for testing with the recurrent miscarriage clinic? I, like you was concerned about Ashermans as I have had 4 ERPCs and 2 terminations for fetal abnormalities. One of the first tests they do is to send you for a comprehensive scan to check there are no problems with your womb, whether it be scarring, or wrong positioning etc. so hopefully that will put your mind at rest. Then they will test your egg reserves, hormone levels, various blood clotting disorders and thyroid function.

I have had all of these tests and they have all come back clear so I'm at a loss myself. The book MummyAbroad/inEngland recommends is well worth reading as it will help you know all the right questions and what to try and push for or make sure you are being tested for everything possible. The only thing the NHS don't test for is the NK Cells which is an immune issue. Something I am tempted to do privately if my current pregnancy doesn't work out.

As far as periods after ERPC are concerned, a proper period generally doesn't turn up 'til 6 weeks later on average so I wouldn't start worrying just yet. I would imagine the brown bleeding is just your body's way of shedding any older blood left over from the ERPC, or possibly some remaining tissue. I know some ladies have been very unlucky but they do say that the risk of scarring and adhesions after ERPC are very rare.
