Periods after miscarriage

I had a miscarriage beginning of July at 5 weeks. I have recently had a period about the time I would have expected one, however, after 5 days of nothing, I have started a small bleed again. Is this usual after a miscarriage?

Hi Nevska ... so sorry about your miscarriage ...
Back in 2002 I had a miscarriage on 12th November, then I had to have an ERPC on the 27th November and my period came on the 12th December.
My previous cycle had always been 28 days no matter what ... but after my m/c my cycle was anywhere from 21 days to 34 days ... It took about 5 months for it to sort itself out and then I got pregnant again ... (DD is now 4.5 months old
What I am saying is ... take it easy, start TTC but don't get upset if you don't get pg straight away ... your body needs time to heal. I say that because I got pregnant first time with both DS and the one I lost and of course got upset when I didn't get pg immediately after my M/C ... so take your time, and get better ...

hello nevska
so sorry to hear about your mc, i had mc on 1st April followed by a d & c i have not yet had a period (nearly 11 weeks, i too feel anxious my gp does'nt think this is a problem and has done various blood tests which have come back normal, so i am trying to relax (easier said than done) and just hope my body soon gets back to normal, hope all goes well for you and hang in there.

Has anybody else had to wait ages for period following miscarriage ? any comments would be much appreciated.

Hi Garysgirl,

11 weeks, must be a real torture! what kind of blood tests did you go through? I have made an appointment with my GP for today to request tests and see how everyting is. I called the hospital if they do follow up test (i've read in so many sites that a 6 week test is always required) and they said that i need to arrange it with my GP. It feels like you are left on your own afterwords. Thank goodness for this site!!!

any advice is appreciated!

hi nevska,
hope your appointment went well with the GP, i've been back again as still no AF, the blood tests checked my hormone levels, prolactin levels, liver function, thyroid function and something else but i can't remember, i also had some swabs taken which showed an infection which i've had antibiotics for and now i've got thrush!! i have to go back to gp next week for a smar and internal exam, thankfully she is being supportive but thinks my main problem is that i am stressed and not managaing to relax, so i am really trying to concentrate on other things, fingers crossed!! she said if no af at six months they will investigate further.
I hope you are getting on ok, take care and keep your chin up, garysgirl.
