Mirena coil - how do you know if you're peri-menopausal?

My GP thinks I may be perimenopausal but we're firstly discounting thyroid having gone haywire (I have hypothyroidism). Bloods came back okay for that so I have another appointment to see what to do next.

Anyone else got a Mirena and had no periods for several years?! I'm 48 and my symptoms are:

A fog-like haze where my brain used to be
Waking up at about 3.30am, WIDE awake and unable to get back to sleep
Anxiety and some irritability
Bloating and tiredness
Lack of libido

GP mentioned HRT so I will investigate - just wondered if there's anyone else out there in my position.

Hi, yes me! I've got a Mirena and was having v light periods or virtually none and now they're popping up sometimes after 2 weeks, being heavier or nothing at all for 6 weeks.

As for 'haze' - i feel very drugged!

Also all other symptoms, except not wide awake at 3 am.

I'm going to try to get to GP this week.

Hi akangarooloose,

My doc thinks I may be perimenopausal but has discovered what she thinks is a fibroid so I have to have a scan to check that out before starting on any HRT...what a pain it all is.

Hope you get some answers from your GP

I have a mirenea, the lady at FP did say it might mask my symptome iynwim,
I am sooo forgetful, I just forget what I was saying halfway through and get my words mixed up(a tomato was called an orange) so yes I have the fog.
and totally irregular,....

You may be perimenopausal but all your symptoms you have described can also be attributed to your Mirena.

It might be worth thinking about using another form of contraceptive.
