Thought I was pregnant, could it be perimenopause?

Hi there,

I thought that I had an early miscarraige in November. I had symptoms like sore breasts, nausea, cramps in legs and tummy. Since then I've been getting the same every month around ovulation for about 7/10 days. Then my period is a couple of days late.

My periods only came back in May this year after 2 years of breastfeeding.

Do you think I could be perimenopausal instead of having had a miscarraige? Or maybe as well I suppose?

How old are you? How late was your period when you thought it was a m/c? I think that period symptoms change as you get older anyway, though.

None of those symptoms sound like menopause tbh.

You would expect erratic periods- either very long or shorter cycles, missed periods, longer periods, hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain...I could go on.

Nope- sounds normal whatever you have.

If you think you miscarried you should see dr to ensure everythng came out- sorry that sounds awful., but you might be advised to have a scan.

Ever since my periods returned after dd I've had the most awful pms symptoms, just like you're describing and I think I'm pregnant every month. I always had these kinds of symptoms but they would only be for a couple of days before period, whereas now they start almost as soon as I've ovulated.

I am 38 but it has never occurred that it might be perimenopausal. I just thought it was because my hormones have been generally buggered around since being pregnant, giving birth and breastfeeding.

I would also be interested if anyone thinks it is perimenopausal as am ttc.

Thanks guys. I'm only 35 but my mother and grandmother had early menopause.

It was a very early miscarriage, as in I was only a week late. The doctor at the time said it probably was a miscarriage.

Hi, relief to read posts about this from others in their 30s! I'm 37 and have been having heavy and long periods ever since my third child finished breastfeeding 18 months ago. I even had some post coital bleeding and had lots of tests to check it wasn't anything sinister.Doctor eventually told me to go away and said its probably your hormones, dear, but didn't give me any advice what to do about it. Did seem to settle down for six months but now started again with days of spotting before period and mid cycle bleeding.I get sore boobs and cramps post ovulation too. So do we reckon its peri menopause, or just the effect of children and (lengthy) breast feeding? Everything I read suggests that its too soon to be peri. Don't feel like going back to docs again.
