Does early onset of periods = early menopause?

Might be an oversimplistic question, but my basic understanding is that we have a finite number of eggs. If they start being released early does that mean they'll run out earlier or is onset of menopause a lot more sophisticated than that?

I've recently had a change in my previously very predictable cycle and last few periods have been a lot heavier.
Menses started age 10 and am now feeling mildly anxious at 35

I was told that the later you start your periods the early your menopause will be, which seems counter-intuitive. I was 15 and am now 40 and have been perimenopausal for the last few years according to my FSH levels (which is what they would test to tell you whether you were), found out all this as had several years of fertility treatment before falling pregnant naturally at 39!!

The other strong indicator is the age your mother was when she had hers, mine was 46, but the perimenopause can start up to 10 years before your periods actually stop.

I grew up believing that early menarche meant late menopause but I am not sure that this is based on sound science.

I have recently been listening to friends discuss possible diet-related connections to early menopause.

I doubt that anything I am saying will offer much comfort and I would recommend that you talk to your gp if you are concerned. (My mum went through something called peri-menopause for a year or so and then everything resolved itself.)

Think I will firstly count my blessings that I had so many years of easy periods, get better sanitary protection system, get a move on TTC#2, chat to my Mum (and possibly GP)

Same here, had been told that starting periods late is in line with an early menopause. I didn't start my periods until I was nearly 16. Started going through the menopause at 40 although I had children at 41 & 43 . Menopause hit in properly after having DS so 44 for me. Am adopted so no idea when my Mother had hers. That can also be a contributing factor.
