Not had period since taking morning after pill 3m ago, not pg. Could this be it?

Took morning after pill beginning of June after condom failure. Last period mid May. Felt a bit feverish with cold sweats for about a week afterwards. Since then no sign of period and feel exhausted all the time however much sleep I get. Have done 2 pg tests now, both negative so not pg. I know a side effect of morning after pill can be delayed period, but this seems to have been going on for too long now.

I am 43 so seems very early for menopause, but could this be it?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has had similar symptoms.

Sounds strange. Have you any other symptoms?

What tests did you use?

YorkshireRose · 03/09/2009 15:58

Just the general tiredness now but did have what seemed to be hot flushes for about a week after taking the MIP.

I used the Clearblue tests.

Its strange as had no other symptoms pointing to menopause until took the pill, then no sign of a period for months now.

They are supposed to be reliable, the clearblue tests.

I thought that the menopause came on gradually. Maybe someone else will come along soon who has an idea what could be wrong.

As far as I know, you can get the doc to do a blood test to measure the hormone levels to determine if it is the menopause.

Thanks MmeLindt.

I think I had better get to the GP and see about getting a blood test.

Anyone else there today who has had similar symptoms?

yes and it was menopause for me but the only way for you to know is to have FSH test done at least a couple of times.
Good luck.

I had one of those contaceptive injections about a year ago that are supposed to last 3 months, and I didn't have a period for 10 months after. I was very worried that it was the menopause, but then I came on. I think the hormones in the morning after, and contraceptives can play havoc, but also I think we're at that age when things might be starting to change... I'm having hot feelings, and just got a feeling my metabolism is playing up like it did after I gave birth 6 years ago... never feeling cold, when normally I wouldve been freezing ...

btw I'm 44. I'd love to know if there's anything I can doo to keep things ticking over for as long as possible... anyone got any advice??

I've had 'gaps' of 4 months, 6 months and (cuurently) 3 months without periods and with occasional hot flushes. The 4 months gap was just after coming off the pill and when my periods came back after that they were much heavier, longer (up to 10 days) & more painful than before. With the 6 month gap, I really thought that was it, but my blood tests were apparently 'inconclusive', so I wasn't very surprised when they started again. Personally, I'd rather have the hot flushes than the periods, so I just wish it would get on with it. (I am a bit older than you though, I was 51 when it all started)

I had this went onto the Pill about 18 months ago and ended up losing my periods for a year of that. Then after the year was up my periods came back really badly. Very Heavy and very painful. Went to dr's and I gave up the Pill but they have plenty of other types of pill you can try to find one suitable for you. I'm 32.

Hi, I had a similar experience but after taking the abortion pill. I was 45, prior to this my periods were regular as clock work. I had one period 8 wks after and then they just stopped. Im convinced they do have side effects in some people. I also really did not want to have to take that pill, i felt i had no choice. When I told my then husband I was pregnant he coldly told me he should have had a vasectomy years ago and to deal with it. It was during the lockdown. It was the most painful experience physically and emotionally I have ever had to deal with. I divorced the controlling bully as soon as i could.
