My cycles are shortening

I'm 34. Having consulted my Menstrual Spreadsheet it cannot be denied that my cycles have gone from 28 days to 25 days over the last year.

Do I need to DO anything at this point or do I just start knitting and wait for death to come?

don't panic- you could have another 20 years before meno!

My cycles gradually shortened from 35 days in my teens & early 20s, to 30, 28, etc etc until 17 days at times at 52!

Your menstrual spreadsheet?

morningpaper · 22/08/2009 16:31

surely everyone has one

So do cycles shorten over time then? I seem to know NOTHING about the menopause. How did I get to my mid-thirties and not know anything about it?

Mine went from 28 days to 21 after birth of DC1. Then at the age of 38, they changed to every 10 days or so, then 6 monthly, yearly, then poof! All gone. No more periods, no hot flushes, nothing. It's not the end of the world, just the end of periods - yay!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 22/08/2009 16:35

My spreadsheet consists of writing a symbol on the calendar 4 weeks after my period starts so I DH can buy chocolate and wineI can watch out for the next one.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 03/09/2009 14:23

I'm 45 and mine have been every 21 days since DC3 was born 7 years ago. Looking forward to getting rid of them altogether now.

jeminthecellar · 03/09/2009 14:28

I laughed at the start knitting and wait for death to come..!

My periods used to start properly, now I have some spotting for a few days before, sometimes up to a week...AND I get clots....AND sometimes I feel like an artery has been slashed iykwim.

It's called the pre-menopause I believe. Have never had a menstrual chart to consult though. Don't know about shorter menstrual cycle, but it could be on the list of 1,000 symptoms of pre-menopause.

I'll get the wool out too shall I? he he.

sfxmum · 03/09/2009 16:10

think I might be on the same boat
and I do have a spread sheet have kept it for years

they are now hovering around 28-26 days when the norm was 30-35

sfxmum · 03/09/2009 16:11

and can I blame my extreme crankiness on it too?

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 03/09/2009 16:13

Oh yes, I have the spotting for days beforehand thing going on too. V annoying.
And several days of PMT.

sfxmum · 03/09/2009 16:13

yes spotting too am clearly doomed

CybilLiberty · 03/09/2009 16:14

My periods are every 21 days too. Hacks me right off.

TigerFeet · 03/09/2009 16:18

A menstrual spreadsheet? Why didn't I think of doing one of those??? And now I'm going to have to wait until I start having periods again. Harrumph.

Snorter · 28/09/2009 21:08

Yup, shortening cycle MAY reflect reduced ovarian reserve so approaching menopause, but there is no clear time scale. Other hormonal upsets can shorten the cycle too though.
