Lots of spots - am I being paranoid?

I've always had clear skin but over the last year have developed patches of pus-ey spots on my chin around the time of my period. This spotty time is getting longer and the spots themselves getting deeper and worse.

I went to my GP and he prescribed some hydrocortisone cream.

I also mentioned that my periods had changed (from about 7 days decreasing flow) to 1 day v.light, 2 to 3 days extremely heavy then stopping. I asked if the two things could be linked and he said no and told me I should be pleased to have shorter periods.

I'm 37 and haven't got kids yet

Am I being paranoid to think it could be peri-menopausal symptoms? (I'm also getting spotting mid month and evil, evil PMS)

And is there anything I can do for the damn spots?!
