Breastfeeding and HRT

GP thinks I may be starting early menopause, and wants to prescribe Mirena coil plus oestrogen patches. She describes the oestrogen as a 'top-up'. I am still bfing 2yo ds2 and had hoped to allow him to self-wean. I want to take the HRT, but I don't know what effect it will have on breastfeeding. I can't find any info. Can anyone advise, or point me in the right direction?

Sorry for you, I also went through premature menopause when I was 17, have been on HRT 30 years now - Good luck.

Thanks, Zipadi. I'm a lot older than you were, so it doesn't have the same implications for me as it had for you - must have been such a shock and a big issue to deal with. At least I only have the breastfeeding to worry about.

This is what you should ask your GP- she's the one prescribing, so she's the one with the answers for you.

GPs know diddly-squat about breastfeeding. I was assured by a GP that I could take Sudafed when bfing, despite the fact that Sudafed reduces milk supply.
