Is sudden constipation a worry, or part of a new perimenopausal pattern?

Hi there
Would be so grateful if anyone had any views on this. Am in early 40s and have started to have slightly more irratic periods. Over Christmas I had a weird hot day, which struck me {with complete horror} that it might be connected. This last week, which is the time I'm ovulating, I have had constipation. Have a really healthy diet and get tons of exercise etc...know all the boxes that must be ticked for normal causes.
have scared myself that it's something sinister now.
But I have always had one day of constipation during ovulation...wondered if this was just an exaggeration of a normal symptom?
Sorry for gross nature of query but have got really worried.

Don't worry, I don't think it's imminent

I too get constipated around 'that' time and I have also been suffering from irregular periods lately along with the occasional hot flush.

I started taking Agnus Cactus (a natural hormone regulator) about 6 weeks ago and it's wonderful! My cycle is back to normal this month, no constipation whatsoever, no hot moments, no pmt, no nothing! I can highly recommend it.

It has taken 6 weeks for me to get to this stage but tbh I did start to feel some improvement after about two weeks. They do say to give it twelve weeks to feel the full effects. HTH

Thank you, TMF. I think my concern is about things like bowel and ovarian cancer, which I have a bit of a thing about. It's just so unlike me, IYKWIM! Does seem to have strong connection with ovulating though.

I know what you mean I think as we get older we do sometimes tend to worry more, especially as to what's going on in parts of us we can't see.

I know that hormones can play a part in constipation. They can cause things to slow down somewhat, and that includes the digestive system and bowel, hence the constipation.

If you are still worried though I'm sure your doctor would do everything they could to alleviate your fears. You do sound to be doing everything right though

I am experiencing unusual constipation this week and have been worried about the same things as you! Hence how I found this thread. Hormones definitely slow things down, and although I usually only notice it for a day, it’s been several days on and off this week so it had me worried! I just wanted to say I was experiencing the same! Hope it resolved soon for you Smile

Reading these posts made me think anxiety is a reason for these feelings. Just worry alone can cause your body to do all sorts of mad things xx
