Menopause - unexplained period after a year

Hi I have been in perimenopause for several years and definitely the menopause for a year With no periods for about 16 momths. I am on HRT and I also have endometriosis and a fibroid. So lots going on gynaecology wise!

This morning I started a period. It started slow but I have period pain and it’s getting heavier but not crazy like they used to be. Has anyone else had a completely unexpected period out of the blue after nothing for ages?

post meno bleeds should always be investigated

You need to see your GP to have this checked out. Chances are things are fine but any bleeding after menopause needs to be investigated, just to be sure.

Thanks guys I definitely need to make an appointment I think. The pain is on the same side as my fibroid too

Definitely get it checked out but just to add I’ve had this twice and all fine, 2nd time a year after the first. My body kept going with the last hurrah!

Several people on here had a bleed after the year, as pp said, it needs investigating.

As others have said, probably fine, however post menopausal bleeding always needs checking out.

Have you had a virus lately at all? That was the conclusion from my GP when I experienced similar and pains, I was so worried. I waited for another six weeks or so with no further problems before deciding it must have been the virus. You should definitely check any random bleeds with your GP, but in case you’re worried about it, when there might be a obvious explanation, particularly if it’s a one off and you don’t continue to bleed or have any other concerning symptoms.

I had this - was completely through I thought and then as I was moving Ds into uni got a shock with a very painful period. I was so worried and in so much pain, got it checked out and was told it’s normal last “hurrah” - always worth getting it checked x

A bleed after more than a year could be something other than a period. Get a gp appointment asap and don't let them fob you off. If your gp isn't clued up on Women's health issues and just makes reassuring noises get a 2nd opinion and see someone else.
