I may be being hysterical here. For approx a year I’ve have very routine regular cycle like could pin point it to the hour. Text book hormones. Regular periods again could pinpoint it easily. Now this month nothing! Nada! Not even a cramp or a bad temper nothing! Going to get a preganancy test in the morning. I’m 51. No HRT very healthy. No mad symptoms of peri. Is anyone else Ike this?

When was your period due?

Zigzag99 · 05/10/2026 19:32

I'm 52. My periods completely stopped for 4 months at the end of last year then started up again out of the blue. Regular both before and after.

@favouriteflowers Menopause usually starts with periods becoming irregular. They can be a few days or weeks late, some women miss one and never have another, more usually the gaps between periods become longer until they stop altogether.

The average age of menopause (no more periods at all) is 51, so you're on the older side to have had regular periods up to 51. They can start to become irregular from mid 40s.

Just one thing- if you've had unprotected sex you can become pregnant. Advice is to use contraception for a full year after your last period (if that's after age 50.)

That's exactly how my menopause was, @favouriteflowers at the same age as you. If anything my periods were more regular than ever in the year or so preceding menopause, and then they just stopped, Completely and for ever. I had no other menopause symptons during the build-up, either.

So it could well be menopause. Don't believe all the weird hyping of menopause complications that you see everywhere now. It is perfectly possible to be free of all these.

Probably sensible to take a pregnancy test, and , who knows, maybe it isn't the Big M yet, but it is certainly a possibility

This is happening to me - since I turned 50
regular as clockwork and now 3-4 months between periods
Can’t wait for them to stop
no HRT either
