56, been on oestrogen gel with a mirena coil for 2 years. Been feeling quite stable, but recently had a couple of bleeds (investigated and all fine) and started developing greasy skin and spots, which I've not had for years.

Anyone experienced this? Is it just my hormones messing around again? Do I need to tweak my hrt? Any ideas much appreciated!

No answers yet, so here's mine. Greasy skin and spots coming back in menopause is really common, even after years of clear skin. As I understand it, as oestrogen falls, the balance with androgens shifts, and the oil glands respond to that even when androgen levels themselves are normal.

Two things worth knowing before you talk to your GP or menopause clinic:

• HRT isn't usually treated as an acne treatment in itself. Whether to change your HRT is a separate decision about your menopause symptoms (and the bleeds), so it's really one for them.
• The acne itself can be treated alongside whatever you're on. Gentler options are often suggested for menopausal skin because it tends to be drier and more reactive than it was at 20, and it helps to pair any spot treatment with a decent moisturiser. A pharmacist or GP can go through what suits you, and a dermatologist if it's persistent, scarring or getting you down.
