Could testosterone at 0.4 be causing muscle soreness

Just that really. FSH and LH are fine, but I think my testosterone is on the low sides and I am not feeling as good as I was. Periods are starting to go off as well and cycles are getting shorter.

Are you taking oestrogen and progesterone?
In my experience its lack of oestrogen that results in joint and muscle pain.

No, doc didn't want to consider peri. Wants to rule out neurological things.

Okay, that's not something I have any experience of. How old are you?

Also, even if your testosterone is low, unless you take it with high enough oestrogen levels it will just convert to oestrogen. That's why I asked if you were already taking hrt.
For testosterone to work as testosterone your oestrogen levels need to be optimal first.

I'm 40. Ah so I'd need my oestrogen levels checking as well? Also starting to get very hot at night and weirdly had a sore tongue a few months ago. Plus a major increase in anxiety in a way that I had never had before.

All those things could be a symptom of changing hormone levels or they could be something else entirely. For example the symptoms you've mentioned (bar the sore tongue) can also happen with high blood pressure.

At your age a hormone panel will not really show very much because your sex hormones will be fluctuating naturally.

Are you missing periods because that's the most obvious symptom of peri menopause?

Also 40 is very young unless you have a family history of early menopause or a risk of premature ovarian failure which is an autoimmune disease.

A sore tounge can indicate a b-vitamin or iron deficiency these can also cause muscle and joint aches with fatigue.

I also had them checked and both normal.

Cycles are getting shorter. Not sure re ovarian failure, but I have seen quite a lot of women saying that their symptoms started in their early 40's.

I can't really answer that because I didn't really have any symptoms until my periods suddenly stopped at 52. Lots of women don't really notice peri menopause.

I've seen your other thread about itchy palms etc and tbh it does sound like it could be stress related. I remember stress playing havoc with my periods one time during a particularly awful time in my 20s.

But, I am no expert and it could easily be something else. I am very wary of passing off non specific symptoms as stress because I know from experience that is how serious illness can be missed.

What does your GP think?

Sore tongue - I got going through menopause
it’s called burning mouth syndrome
I had mine years ago, I still get it now and again especially if stressed

GP wants to check for serious issues first like fibro etc. You could be right, alongside the anxiety, I have had a period of very very tight muscles, to the point of episodes of shaking and spasms during panic attacks, but I thought this might have resolved by now.

That sounds tough. How often do you get outside/take exercise? I know it's not the same but that always calms me down when I get stressed.

Sore tongue!
I had that, tongue and lip. I think it was Burning Mouth related to perimenopause. (A stupid GP tried to tell me it was reflux. It was not. I have a different GP now)

Oh really. How long did it go on for? Mine was there for around 6-8 and then just vanished. Did you have any other peri symptoms?
