Evoerl Sequi and PMT/depression

I've been on Evorel Sequi since September last year, and I have developed terrible PMT symptoms during the second half of the cycle. I have awful low mood (thoughts of self-harm), period cramps and a lot of anger. I also frequently have breakthrough bleeding and the cycle is not regular.
In the past when I have tried hormonal contraception and have had to stop it because I found it made me depressed. I am going to book a review with doctor as I know there are many different types of HRT, but can I just stop using the patches immediately?
I know it is probably more sensible to wait until I have my appointment, but I'm due on this week and I'm finding it unbearable. I just want to stop and see if it helps because it can't make things any worse.

it maybe that it’s too strong for you? But if you want to stop I’d taper off slowly. You can cut patches so you slowly get less and less. Must be the lack of progesterone in the second half of the cycle.
go back for a review and see if there is an alternative for you.

Honestly, it's like the penny has just dropped. I think you're right it's the progesterone although I think the second half contains it rather than it's absence.
I've just been looking up progesterone intolerance and it would make sense that I always struggled on Microgynon. I just never persevered with trying the alternatives and just assumed hormonal contraception wasn't for me.
I've logged an eConsult with the docs so hopefully I can do a telephone review. For now, I'll cut the tablets in half and see whether that helps in the interim.
Thank you so much for your reply.

I was the same. First two weeks I felt good on the oestrogen only patch, but the second half of the month I was a raging tearful mess. I ended up changing to just Evorel oestrogen patches and had the coil fitted to deal with the progesterone side of things. I know the coil doesn’t suit everyone but I’ve felt tons better (although oily skin and hair but at least my mood is stable).

I've just had a call from the doctors and I've got an appointment at 10.50. I'm in shock!
It actually makes me want to cry.

Bless you. Very similar, quite a few occasions where I would be sobbing on the floor saying I wished I was dead. It was so out of character for me. Then the oestrogen only weeks would roll around again and I’d feel ok again.

Glad you’ve got a GP appointment (and so quickly too!) and I’m sure they’ll be able to help and you’ll feel much better x

So the appointment went well. I'm moving onto the gel and tablets for now to see how I get on.
Fingers crossed it helps, but if not I'll keep trying!
Thank you for all your posts...it really does help to know that I'm not alone in this.
