Hip pain - perimenopause?

Hi, I’m 44 and wondering if I’m perimenopausal. I’ve noticed I do get much hotter and sweatier than I used to (on a few occasions I’ve sweated so much my hair looks wet) but my biggest issue is that I’m suffering with awful hip pain which I’ve read can be due to oestrogen levels falling. I’m on the mini pill and don’t get periods so no idea what they’d be doing and my mum was out into surgical menopause so no idea what the family history of symptoms is. I don’t know if I should consider talking to the doctor about hrt or if there is something else like a supplement I could try to help with the bloody hip pain!

Could be IT band— in which case PT is the answer.

I’ve been having physio at the moment as it’s excruciating but I just have a constant level of hip pain even when it’s not in a flare. I also get neck and shoulder pain but I’m in a desk based job. Physio said my glute area was inflamed but I’m trying to work out why my hips just always ache. Outside of work I’m fairly active, I do PT sessions, a group class, Pilates and lots of walks at the weekend.

I get hip pain . Either it’s arthritis or it’s a knock on effect of a prolapsed disc in my lower back. . I do physio to tho

Hip pain was one of my main perimenopausal symptoms. I couldn't get comfortable, so had disrupted sleep as well as hobbling around, and was managing it with paracetamol. I'd thought it was a lifetime's dancing and poor posture catching up with me until I joined this board. I'm 48 and less active than you OP. I am now a month into HRT, the hip pain went in the first week along with the brain fog and restless legs. Still getting hot flushes but it's early days. Worth a chat with the GP to consider all the options for cause and remedy.

Hi op. Are you doing regular specific physio for your pain?

So banded side leg raises (band around ankles), clam shells with proper form, 90/90? Also are you working on your knees? Some hip pain can come from knee instability. Wall sits are helpful.

I'm not saying it isn't peri - when mine started I developed achilles tendinitis, tennis elbow, mortons neuroma, knee pain etc within 18 months! But physio has been a massive help.

I had very bad hip pain until I started HRT.
I hadn't realised it was a symptom until somebody at work told me.
Such a relief now, I used to be up at night with the pain

Yes! My hips were awful. We even spent a silly amount of money on a new mattress because I thought that might be the problem. HRT fixed it almost completely.

You need to go to your GP, so they can work out what it is, the cause, what the treatment is and how to prevent reoccurrence.

I have gluteal tendinopathy, what you describe sounds like the symptoms I have, but there are a multitude of different hip issues and you really need a proper diagnosis.

Hip pain was a big one for me, but I also got my bloods done and they found out I was massively deficient in vitamin D and iron. prescription vit D and iron tablets helped massively, plus HRT, I was late 40’s at the time.

Yes, the Pilates I do is physio led so I’m doing the right exercises, but thank you!

Hrt got rid of a lot of my joint pain so we could identify what was actually damaged. Came back within weeks of stopping..

I struggle to sleep because it's uncomfortable.
