I recently saw a private hormone doctor who was great and really listened to me - I did try HRT with my NHS GP but didn’t get on with it - she said I don’t need the oestrogen but that my progesterone and testosterone is low and prescribed utrogestan 1 a night - my sleep and anxiety is quite bad - some me, some hormonal - anyone had this approach and it has helped? I am nervous to start as I am really sensitive to hormones. Thanks for reading and would really appreciate your views x

Yes I'm sure it was that. I've gone up several times since then and done it much more gradually, it's been much less bad.

It was bad but quick though, 3 weeks and I was over the hump. Cutting the patches up felt a bit like dragging it out.

Sorry just realised you weren't replying to me !

Thank you everyone - really appreciate everyone’s comments. And yes @JinglingSpringbells I think I could have started smaller - I did one pump, but less may have been better. Can I ask you all - and this may seem like a very silly question - what do hot flushes feel like? Different I am assuming than just feeling hot.

It’s not a silly question at all @Sleepy21. I still get the odd flush. They come from nowhere and are instant, my face and upper body get very hot.

I’ve found I can’t wear man made fibres since being peri/menopausal and carry a fan with me.
I can’t stand more than a 7 tog duvet, heating is never over 18 degrees. Find it difficult to regulate my body temp sometimes.

So far I've only had mild 'warm flushes'. My DM says the full version is when you instantly go from 'fine' to 'would happily stand outside in the snow in only my underwear' - and she has on occasion done exactly that.

For me it's mainly my neck and back that gets hot and breaks a sweat instantly - some of my hair will get wet. Still not sure if these are pure hot flushes, but it is a guess. It happens primarily in tops that are up to the neck, no buttons or anything (so shirts seem mostly ok, but even a specific top with no sleeves can do this faithfully). It is also accompanied by a wave of adrenaline or anxiety for me, like when you realise you have lost your phone or bank card- though doesn't have to have a stimulus.

Agree that a 10 tog duvet is, so far, too much. Maybe in January.

With utrogestan I found that the continuous method had bad digestive and mouth taste effects, worse than the half cycle method. For me, progesterone in any application method seems to be very hard to process.

Exactly this! I love it when it’s cold outside and I can stand out for a few minutes when mid flush.

@Livingmagicallyagain @SophieV80 are you both UK based?

No, not UK!

Do review taking utrogestan pv. It completely bypassed any side effects which I get if I take it orally.

And estrogel can take a little while. I apply it in the morning and after a few weeks everything settled.
