Just trying to gauge what is normal. Mine started 2 weeks ago, currently on 14 today 😑 just warm...all the time.

I went to the GP with Perimenopause symptoms at 46 years old. She told me to come back once the hot flushes started. When they did, it was 30+ times a day. I wasted no time and got on the phone as it was unbearable on top of some other health issues I have. Got HRT. Literally stopped them within 24 hrs

GizmoIsSoFluffy · 14/09/2026 21:58

Interesting. I know nothing of hrt. Is it easy to take? I'm rubbish at taking pills. Just wish I wasn't so hot all the time

Well today was literally from the minute I got up until about half an hour ago.
had all
doors and windows open all day and every fan on in the jouse

been in shorts and a thin t shirt all day and now in shorts and a vest top.

it’s relentless currently but I’m still undecided about hrt due to other hormones I already have to take.

the worst for me was on holiday in July where it was nearly 40 degrees.

oh the sheer amount of cold showers

I have ceiling fans, cooling blankets and bamboo shorts and vest for bed with a sheet even in winter.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 14/09/2026 22:26

About every 20 minutes on a humid day like today and at night every 90 minutes or so. It’s the humidity that really gets me.
Unfortunately no HRT for me as I’m on Tamoxifen for breast cancer. This is month 28 and I was hoping maybe the hot flushes would ease up at some stage, but nope! Only another 7 and a half years to go…..

Quercus5 · 14/09/2026 22:29

I use hrt patches which are an absolute doddle to use. Just stick one on, change it twice a week. My hot flushes disappeared immediately.

Mumteedum · 14/09/2026 22:37

I'm considering HRT. I'm actually in menopause now...just. I am just flipping boiling all the time just now. Today was bad.

FredaFox · 14/09/2026 22:37

my people! I’ve had them sporadically the past few years but the past 8 weeks have been awful, I’m getting to the point my hair is always damp or dry and the back but on occasion it’s wet through, im
finding it so embarrassing
I’ve never been great in the heat and actually the summer was ok but as soon as it went muggy the flushes have been awful
I raised a request with my gp today so hoping they will give me something, I’ve been managing without hrt but I’m ready, can’t have this sweaty mess

Houseplantqueen · 17/09/2026 20:12

For me not so many. Maybe 10 a day, and they stopped for a few months but the hot summer seemed to start them off again. So hopeful they’ll stop again soonish.

Autumnlife · 17/09/2026 22:55

I have none whatsoever and I’m on HRT they literally stopped straight away along with the night sweats and the aches in my legs. Took a few attempts with different types. I sleep extremely well too. For me HRT was the right choice.

I have started HRT today, just stuck the patch on my thigh and change it again on Sunday!

Kensingtonbuns · 17/09/2026 23:02

None. HRT is a game changer.

JinglingSpringbells · 18/09/2026 08:40

I had around one an hour and waking at night very hot before I went on HRT at 53. I put up with the flushes for about a month.

Blueshape · 18/09/2026 08:45

I thought I'd got away with it. I haven't had a period since Easter and the previous one was 4 months before that. Hot flushes stated during the very hot weather this summer, and to begin with I just thought I wasn't coping with the heat, but it hasn't improved.

15 - 20 a day and a dozen during the night. Sweat literally running in rivers down my face, back, chest, even my legs. Clothes wet through in meetings. Lovely.

I can't have HRT because progesterone does terrible things to me!

Yes. I have it in the form of the progesterone releasing coil (Mirena) and oestrogen gel I rub into my legs. When I started it a few years ago, my GP told me that this was the safest way to take it.

I’ve actually never had a hot flush, not even before going on HRT. I feel very lucky. I only went on HRT because my GP said it would be better for my overall health.

CuteHANDBAG · 18/09/2026 08:57

I take HRT and I think it’s incredible. I used to get hot flushes since having periods and I would often feel a wave of heat and now I don’t. It’s so much more comfortable. Even in the crazy hot weather I’m ok. I feel hot but not that feeling of prickling under your skin. I sleep really well too now.
I keep my weight down and am otherwise healthy ie don’t drink or smoke to help keep cancer risks down

Additup · 18/09/2026 12:07

I don't think there is a 'normal' number OP.

I've never had one and neither have 2 of my friends. We range from mid 50s to early 60s.

Meanwhile another friend has them all the time.

lljkk · 19/09/2026 08:08

0 recently and LOTs maybe a year ago.
I never found them that inconvenient and I've always been prone to temperature swings so it's not that different from my adult normal, anyway.

Nospringchix · 20/09/2026 14:37

About 25 is during the day then every hour at night. Wish I could tolerate hrt!

While it’s not daily when I get them my hair is dripping, varies from wet underneath to my hair being visibly wet and me being bright red. I’m off to the gp about it this morning. It’s embarrassing and I need it to stop

Permanentlyundecided · 24/09/2026 08:13

In my 40's in perimenopause about 30 a day, they were constant. I'd often be out in the garden at 4am in my vest and pants in the middle of winter trying to cool down!
Now in my 50's, post menopausal, maybe 1 or 2 a day. HRT does help if you can tolerate it, I can't unfortunately but the symptoms do subside on their own eventually.
I'm definitely less tolerant of warm weather in general now though and you'll never find me sitting the sun. I am all about the shade theses days. I have no desire to holiday anywhere hot either anymore. Am ok up to 20c so winter holidays for me from now on.

Puhpuhpuhpuh · 24/09/2026 08:18

None. I’m now 60. When I was a bit younger, the worst was maybe a one a week for a while, and that wasn’t too bad. Not on HRT.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/09/2026 08:29

Mostly between about 5 and 30. Enough to affect my sleep but still manageable.
I had a few years in perimenopause when I could get them under control with enough exercise, healthy eating, avoiding alcohol etc, but now I am menopausal nothing seems to make much difference.
I have read that they are generally worst for the first year after menopause so hoping they will settle down at some point as I really don’t want HRT (bad experiences with hormonal contraception).
