Perimenopause at 38?

Hi, I think I'm experiencing perimenopause at age 38. I started in January with symptoms - insomnia (always been a good sleeper apart from some bouts in pregnancy), randomly feeling hot, headaches, increased anxiety (although I've always struggled), dry skin. My periods have been regular up until now, and for the first time I can remember, my period is late. I've taken a pregnancy test, and it's negative.

My mum went through the menopause in her early 40s, so I'm guessing this is what's happening. I'm scared, feeling alone and sad. :(

I guess I'm just looking for support and solidarity. I have three young kids (8, 6 and 2) and life is busy and exhausting as it is.

Thanks for reading. X

It definitely could be. Don't go to your Dr. for help as you'll end up on antidepressnts. I am certain I started at 37. I went to Stella menopause clinic who understood prescribed and now I am like my old self. Therefore my issue was always peri-menopause not depression.

Esting
Vaginal estrogen
Estrogen patch
Utrogesterone pulls

And I am back to my 30 year old self

Hi JoJo. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. That's great that you've found some help and treatment that has helped you feel better. I went to the gp and she dismissed me, telling me it couldn't be perimenopause because I had regular periods. How long have you been on hrt? I'll have a look into Stella x

Likewise, done and dusted by 40. I wasn't sorry. I'm still perfectly healthy at 64. And the same with DM. She got to 88 before she had any health issues at all. As you'll know, it does tend to run in families.

Thanks! I'm not sure when my grandma went through it but she is very healthy at 82, no known health issues down the maternal line so hopefully I'll follow suit. Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's just the unknown I struggle with, and the fact it's not really talked about!

Hi, I'm in the same boat, so just wanted to offer solidarity. I'm 40 and started thinking it might be perimenopause as my mum was in her early/mid 40s when she went through it. I went to the doctors and had blood tests and they came back today and it looks like it is so probably going to start HRT. Even though I suspected it, I'm finding it really hard to get my head around , I feel too young! I only had a baby last year and got pregnant easily so it feels very strange to go from fertility straight towards menopause!

Hi Silly Ant, thanks so much for replying, and I'm sorry you're also in a similar situation. Yes, this is how I feel - I've always conceived easily, have had clockwork periods throughout my life including breastfeeding (currently breastfeeding my two year old). When I went to the doctors she dismissed it and told me they won't test for hormones as unreliable. Did you see a specialist gp? Thanks so much x
