Continuous progesterone - is this what you would expect?

I’ve been on cyclical progesterone for about four years now. 55 and still regular periods - not withdrawal bleeds. The GP asked me to try continuous progesterone, given my great age. I started that about a month ago. But for the last two weeks my breasts have been swollen and very tender - a bit like pregnancy. (I have a mammogram tomorrow- dreading that). I’m also crying all the time. Progesterone is literally the only change. Does that sound typical? It’s not much fun.

When I first started taking progesterone (albeit cyclically) I had the boob thing. I started to worry that I was pregnant as that’s the only other time my boobs felt like that. It settled down after about 6 months and I don’t have it any more.

So maybe it is the progesterone and your body needs to just get used to it?

Can I just ask, how do you know that your periods are real ones and not just withdrawal bleeds? I’ve been pondering this.

They are heavy and crampy, and they don’t coincide with stopping the progesterone. I did have the occasional withdrawal bleeds too - lighter and within three days of stopping the tablets.
