Anyone on Drydrogesterone (Nalvee?)

Hello wise ones - this has only just come on my radar (though understand it is what’s combined with estrogen in Femoston?). I couldn’t tolerate the increase of progesterone to 200mg daily (continuous in post menopause) that is needed to increase to 100mg of Evorel from 75. Read that this offers womb protection at much lower doses - does this mean I could go up to 100 Evorel (patch) without the intolerance?
Has anyone successfully been prescribed it in NHS Meno Clinics (which am under)? And how do you find it?

I’m fine on Progesterone 100mg & like it’s GABA calming effect so don’t want to trade that but understand this option is similar (though synthetic). I can’t take Prog vaginally, rectally or have a coil fitted for other medical reasons. And having horrific anxiety & adrenaline & wondering if I should ask to trial either alternative delivery options of my existing estrogen (if absorption issues) or this? Any input much appreciated 🙏

I don't understand why it should be a problem getting Nalvee.
The BMS says it is now available on the NHS- that was a year ago.

I have a friend on it after she swapped from using Utrogestan vaginally and found it fine. Less of a withdrawal bleed (I assume though you might want to use it daily rather than continuously.)

BTW I don't think that a 75mcg patch means you HAVE to go up to 200mcg on progesterone; I thought this was guidance for 100mcgs or if there was bleeding on 100mgs + higher doses of estrogen.

Thanks @JinglingSpringbells& encouraging to hear it is available. I want to go up to 100mcg but had to up my progesterone to 200mcg in order to do so - which I was intolerant to. I have since read that Nalvee is only available in 10mcg (?) doses but no idea what the guidance is regarding Estrogen dosing when on it. My aim was to reduce the risk of intolerance if a smaller dose is only needed for womb protection. The little I’ve read on it is from some users who found 10mcg too much & who were halving tablets - which has led to some issues with prescribing etc. Only from the limited amount I’ve read though.

There is no comparison with doses for micronised progesterone and other types of progesterone. eg Norethisterone is a 5mgs dose but as a synthetic progesterone it is very strong.

It's a standard dose regardless of the dose of estrogen.

Oh I see @JinglingSpringbells - so there’s no way of knowing if 10mcg of Nalvee is less strong than 200mg of progesterone? Forgive my ignorance. Is it used as another option for progesterone intolerance? I don’t know how you can quantify it? 🤔

@Blummingorgeous My understanding is that the dose is effective regardless of the dose of estrogen. If it were not, it would be prescribed in different doses.

The link I left says that many women experience less bleeding on it. The person I know using it on a cycle says the same.

I don't think you need worry about it not being strong enough.

I don't understand women halving it- that will be against prescribing guidance and maybe not providing enough protection- are they doing that in agreement with a doctor?

I'm on Nalvee and 100mg patch. Previously on Slynd which was fantastic symptom wise but had weight gain (most people don't get this side effect).

Thanks @HappyHedgehog247 how do you find it? Were you intolerant to Progesterone at all? I’m only intolerant to it at 200mcg hence wondering if Nalvee could be an option to alllow me to increase to 100 Evorel (due to breakthrough anxiety). The only prob is I like Progesterone for its calming properties - how do you feel on Nalvee? I know we’re all different - but is just helpful to hear others’ experiences.

@JinglingSpringbells good that it can be effective in reducing bleeding. I’m a continuous user - I’ve probably got this wrong - but my logic was could I increase to 100 Evorel & not have to double my progesterone to do it - to reduce the intolerance this causes. But as the doses are not comparable there’s no guarantee of that. Obviously it needs to be high enough for womb protection but I conversely am wanting it to be not such an increase (that prog requires) that I can tolerate it better. I know - I’m not sure re the halving it - perhaps those whose doctor has suggested it /or approved it are on much lower estrogen doses to start with.

Hi, it's month 3 so still relatively early. I only take it for 14 days (still menstruating every month). I dislike progesterone and love oestrogen! I'm finding it good so far.

@HappyHedgehog247 oh right early days then - but really good it’s for you working so far. Will see what the Meno Clinic have to say. Thanks for the feedback.
