Hormonal migraines, any other ideas.

My GP
put me on the mini pill for hormonal migraines, which didn’t work, so she put me on the combined pill. It helped initially although I bled for 3 weeks. But back to having headaches again. I have another appointment at the end of September, not sure what I should be asking for. Other than the migraines I have no other peri symptoms and my periods have always been regular.

How old are you? HRT was the only thing that worked for my hormonal migraines.

I want to try HRT. I went from
as regular as clock work
ams only bleeding for 5-7 days to all over the place and bleeding for weeks. Also completely lost my libido on the combined pill.

If your migraines come with aura, you must not take the combined pill.

Try migraine prophylaxis. I'm on pizotifen.

Pizotifen of one of the popular choices by GPs,I’m not sure it’s that effective for some people. Propranolol is an option if blood pressure is stable.

Propanolol gave me bradycardia.

Sadly, medics really hate prescribing topiramate to women.

We decided against preventative medication as it’s soley related to periods and hormones. I never get them at any other time. I don’t have aura so the pill is ok.

My BP is on the low side of normal so, I’m not sure I’d tolerate propanalol. My dad had beta blockers and couldn’t tolerate them at all.

I'm not sure it's very helpful... But I chose hrt over the combined pill and have wished I chose the pill for better control over periods and associated menstrual migraines.

Hrt doesn't stop you ovulating, if I ovulate - I get migraines. I think others have had more success with hrt for migraine, but I often wonder if they had such a strong pattern of pre-existing exclusively menstrual migraine as me.
