Anyone have higher sex drive during perimenopause?

Most posters seem to talk about a lack of sex drive in peri or menopause but I’m having the opposite problem. For most of the month I’m super horny but not in a normal way. I literally walk around feeling like my groin is on fire and it’s physical - so I can feel it whether I’m in a sexual situation or walking around Tesco!!! Having sex helps a bit but doesn’t change it.

i had kids late and I breastfed a long time so it’s always hard for me to work out where peri begins and baby hormones end. Hard to date stuff for same reason. It took us a long time to regain our sex life post infertility and young kids. So I thought it was just my body waking up and not getting any…but now am realising that having sex doesn’t change it and wondering if this is actually hormonal in some way?

oh and I don’t know if it’s related but I don’t have vaginal dryness that people say can make sex sore.

Anyone have similar.

Yes, I was uncontrollable (almost) during peri. It made me understand how men are the way they are. And also made me wish for a pill to take to turn the libido off.

My partner couldn't cope with the amount of sex I wanted and I really really hated the way sex was in my head the whole time.

Just to say though. It does wear off (mine lasted for about 5/6 years and had a lingering effect for maybe another 4 years). And the lack of vag dryness wears off too. No escaping menopause!

You have my sympathy.

Yep. Big time.

Thank you!!! @ClawsandEffectgood to know I’m not alone at least.

Glad to hear it wears off. Sort of - not looking forward to the dryness bit. I know what you mean about feeling like (what they say) some men experience. Unfortunately my DH doesn’t have a high sex drive - we do have sex but not enough to satisfy this but then I’m not sure anything would.

Peaks and troughs, not constant. And not quite to that extent. But very definitely peaks, yes.

Fortunately, my DP is coping admirably.

Yep definitely, not all the time but definitely higher, DH is happily managing it but he is a bit knackered. Think it’s worked well for us, sex life hasn’t always been great (a me issue not him) so I think we’ve been feeling a lot closer too. It’s been nice.

Mine went mad. I was and am single. I dated a fair bit and I have a good vibrator collection. It has calmed (i am mid-50s now,), but I am still bemused by those who say they aren't bothered if they never have sex again.

I am now at this stage. The hyper sex drive is temporary, it doesn't last.

Frankly, it was so intrusive that I am overjoyed that I am at the 'never want sex again' end of the spectrum now.

Thanks everyone. I don’t particularly want to lose all sex drive either. Bit of balance would be good!!! Maybe this is TMI but I have kids around, DP there or am at work all the time so can’t even sort myself out!!! Otherwise I would be jealous of @EBearhug with the vibrator collection 😂

I am now wondering if it’s nature’s way of trying to get me to use up my last few eggs!!! Like a plant desperately producing flowers when it gets pruned! After years of infertility, I tend to assume I wouldn’t get pregnant but technically I should still be careful I know

When I turned 40 my libido suddenly appeared. I was married at the time, currently getting divorced, but we didnt have sex so I just bought some toys and had crushes on celebrities.

It has calmed down a bit now 9 years later but still higher than at any other time in my life. I'm on HRT and vaginal estrogen cream twice a week which seems to stir things up down there, and my celebrity crushes are going strong.

Sadly no. Rock bottom then zilch.

Yeah, that's what I think mine was. I fell desperately in love with a loser, shagged his brains out (he couldn't keep up) and developed an urge for another baby even though my DC was in their 20s (didn't give in to it thankfully!).
