Endometrial Hyperplasia without atypia

Following a hysteroscopy in June where poylops were removed, and a biopsy was taken, I recently found out that although the poylops came back clear, pre cancerous cells had been found in my biopsy.

I have been into hospital today, thinking I was going to have the Mirena coil fitted, which I did, but have also been told that the pre cancerous cells that they found were aggressive. So today I’ve had another hysteroscopy, and another biopsy.

ive also been told that I need to stop my HRT (luckily last night I took the last 2 tablets of my 12 day run, and I’ve taken my patch off now) and I have to go cold turkey. I did message the dr last week when I found out I was getting the Mirena, I went to the surgery too, but they haven’t come back to yet.

has anyone gone cold turkey with HRT? My main worries are rage, hot flushes, sleep issues, and anxiety. I hoping the mirena will help with the heavy periods.

i had a very similar experience to you. I had the Mirena fitted and one year of monitoring. I was told I needed two clear hysteroscopys to be taken off monitoring. All been well since then and I won’t delay if I have any bleeding.

I wasn’t taking any kind of HRT so I’m afraid I can’t answer your other questions. All I recall is that I was told that the Mirena should help to some extent and as it’s direct to your uterus, it should be more effective. Don’t quote me on that though, I found the hysteroscopy and Mirena fitting utterly traumatic so wasn’t 100% with it

Can I ask you to query something? If there are pre cancerous cells that would usually mean atypica- meaning not normal.
Hyperplasia without any change to cells is just that- no changes.

I think you need to do as you're been asked- stop hrt and wait for the results of the 2nd biopsy. You need to ask your specialist what they suggest.

Something very similar happened to me @perimumma.

I told that there was a 25% chance that my pre-cancerous cells could develop into cancer in 20 years.

I was told to stop taking HRT and was given 3 options:
Do nothing
Have the Mirena coil fitted - this could help to reverse it
Or was offered a hysterectomy

Due to the non urgency I opted for option 2. Had to have it fitted by GA as it was too painful.

Follow up hysteroscopy and was told that I didn’t have it after all and all was fine. Thank goodness I didn’t opt for the hysterectomy!

I asked if I could go back on HRT and was told yes so I went to my GP pronto.

Sorry Op but my time off HRT was not pleasant. My shoulder started throbbing like crazy and the sweats came back. Since being back on HRT my shoulder is no longer causing me grief and I am sweat free.
