Anxiety

Hello, I was diagnosed peri menopausal earlier this year. Said I didn’t feel like I needed hrt but now waiting for my appointment to see the GP. Stopped taking sertraline after a taper, know what I’m doing so not stopped on a whim but had heart palpitations and felt like I didn’t need them.
Been having brain fog and memory issues. This cycle things have ramped up mentally. Just before my period I was feeling short tempered and like I had little patience for my family and wanted to be left alone. Although I obviously love them. Day 2 of my period something was said at work and it sent me into a massive spiral of anxiety. Went back on the sertraline and ashwaghanda but only 2 days ago. The anxiety has tapered but still there a bit. I can’t tell what’s a real worry. I feel absolutely exhausted but otherwise ok but yesterday I was so confused and messed up at work. I’m actually quite scared. I had a sense this would happen after I had severe anxiety when I was pregnant. Sorry for the ramble. I’m just looking for some hope.

Im on sertraline and feel back to normal (still sweaty and hungry but this is out weighed by the positives). Chatting to the gp and he said you need to be on it for at least six months when you feel “normal”. Have you come off too early perhaps? I felt horrendous when I first started taking it.

Sorry to clarify I’ve been off and on for 14 years. Latest stint was 2023 to July this year. Was on 25 and tapered to 12.5 then stopped it completely 22nd July. Went back on it yesterday on 12.5 which doesn’t seem enough to be working yet today I feel loads better. That’s why I think it’s hormones as it wouldn’t be this quick. I need to do some work on myself I know as well but the panic and anxiety loops have eased off

It just seems like a massive coincidence that my period is at the end as well. Woke up last night sweating buckets which is a new thing.

Does anyone else have any experience please?

I have peri anxiety. HRT is helping a little, now it’s odd days rather than daily morning to night.

HRT dealt with most of my symptoms except for anxiety so I’m taking citalopram for that.

Thanks both. So I was feeling I didn’t need the sertraline any more but maybe I do. It’s only 12.5 mg. I have a cbt book and I know I need to work through that but with a family and full time job this will need to be done at weekends. It’s just I need to stop trying to do things to heal the anxiety which just ends up being a short term solution. I hope I get the hrt
