Perimenopause or not?

Hi, I was just looking for some advice 😊

Not sure if I am perimenopausal or its something else.
Symptoms are: sudden hotness and sweats (comes out of nowhere and i feel like im about to combust sometimes!)
Brain fog (im forgetting quite a lot recently and sometimes struggle to think of words etc)
Struggle to sleep, either cant get to sleep or wake up in the night and cant go back to sleep.
Ive always been anxious and an overthinker but it has got so bad recently and im taking things really personal and overthinking absolutely everything.
Always had heavy periods and they're not regular (pcso and suspected endometriosis). But the last few have been ridiculous and ive been bed ridden on occasion.

Been to the Dr's this morning and been told im too young and its not (im 33).

Am i just being over dramatic or could I be right? Honestly feeling a bit miserable at the moment and frustrated.

TIA 😊

At your age it's unusual but not impossible. But whether it's perimonopause or something else, there is a cause - and your doc should be looking for it.

It's unlikely to be menopausal at 33, but not impossible.
Could it be thyroid issues, anxiety, fluctuating hormones due to your PCOS?

Just to reassure you I'm 56 and my periods ended over 3 years ago. I didn't have any of the symptoms you're describing. It's not a given you'd have those symptoms if you were going through early menopause.

If I were you I'd go back and push for some blood tests. As you have PCOS can you contact your consultant to see if they can get you an appointment or at least a phonecall ?

Thank you for your replies.
I will get back to the drs and ask for more blood test.

To be honest there are 1% of women who have a premature menopause so it's rare but not that rare!

Did your mum have an early menopause? or PCOS?

I'd ask to see a specialist. If you think you have PCOS and endo, why is your GP not referring you anyway ? Have you seen someone before?

You need blood tests (GP can do those), scans, someone to look at your ovaries with a scan and maybe other diagnostic tests for endo.

This is a gynaecologist issue - not a GP.

Insist on a referral and if you can afford it do at least the first appt privately (you can then go back to the NHS) as the wait is likely to be very long just to see a specialist.

@JinglingSpringbells
My mum and grandmother both were in mid/late 30s when menopause symptoms first started.

Ive had tests done around 10 years ago as I was struggling to conceive DS1. Found out then I had Pcos and a scan 3 years ago suggested endometriosis.
Blood tests have always come back ok, except low iron at one stage.
Ive been back and forward for years with symptoms but these new ones are just intense and not my usual symptoms ive had.

Ive got a phone consultation this week some point so im hoping I can at least get some answers going forward.
But failing that I may go private as you've suggested just even if its to find a cause.

It seems pretty obvious that you have premature menopause. Look up the charity for this- the Daisy Network. They also have a forum where you can talk to other women (there is a small joining fee for the charity.)

I have all these symptoms and could be perimenopause but could also be caused by low ferritin, so its worth checking that too with your next blood test (it sounds backwards but low ferritin can make your periods heavier!)

I am thinking the same thing am I peri menopausal. I'm 44 have never really suffered from PMT was lucky in that regard. I've never been able to take hormonal contraception as I always had side effects so had the copper coil for years until I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2021 and given the mirena coil to help. Literally a month later I spent 8 days in hospital with a massive pelvic abscess and lost my tubes. Since then I haven't been right
Heavy periods where tampons and towels are needed which has caused me to be anaemic and now under haematology and got a gynaecology appointment soon. The last few months I have not felt like myself. Always hot restless legs brain fog tired all the time no motivation and emotional. My mum and nan both had to have a hysterectomy around my age and I am seriously thinking about asking about it.

Thank you mozzarella84 I get blood tests all the time and getting some done week after next. Ever since the abscess my infection markers are always up and my iron is low as well as no folate x
