Switch over to continuous HRT

Hello,
My GP requested that I see him for a medication review and I went today. He said because I've been on sequential HRT for almost 3 years that I should change to continuous now.
I'll be 51 in 3 months time and started HRT 3 years ago because of anxiety. My periods were irregular also.
I'm having a breast biopsy next week so he said to wait for those results and then change over all being well.

I've come home and researched and I can only find guidelines relating to changing over after 3-5 years of sequential or being aged 55.
Thoughts/experiences please

It's not set in stone.
I'm still on sequential after nearly 18 years with an eminent consultant.
It suits me better.

The guidance is to OFFER continuous when -

-women are 54+
-no natural periods for 12 months
-on HRT for a year - it's worth a try depending how far you were in peri when you started HRT
-change after 5 years (some guidance says this.)

If using the Mirena coil, that's continuous HRT from the start. It thins the womb lining regardless of HRT or not.

The guidance to change is based on the very slightly higher risk of endometrial cancer on sequential , so many GPs follow this to the letter, but it's no higher risk than women not on HRT.

I hope your appt goes well. Were you called after a mammogram? (no problem if you don't want to discuss that.)

I was moved to continuous after less than 1 year on HRT because I struggled with the ups and down of being on/off progesterone. I still have monthly bleeds but my symptoms are much improved on a continuous regime.
I hope your biopsy goes OK.

@Whenisitwineoclocktime I’m the same. I was in sequential but the two different patches were throwing me around so much, I put up with it for ages and then a different dr said I could go into continuous. I’m now on 2 pumps of gel and daily progesterone, I’ve been on it 6 weeks and I did have a period after 30 days (but previously I had been having them every 17 days) . It was a much more “normal” bleed if that makes sense. Overall I feel much calmer and less fluctuating hormonal feelings

Thanks re biopsy- I had a change in my nipple on one side and was referred but they found an abnormality in the other breast. They said most likely benign but biopsy is precaution.
Had biopsies before but this one is a bit different- a stereotactic one- so feeling a bit nervous x

I’m on sequential and have been for 6 years. My periods have always been regular and I was told I’d only move to continuous when they stopped. I have tried a couple of months off HRT to see if I still got periods (I do) but how would I even know if theyve stopped if progesterone causes breakthrough bleeding? Whats the benefit of continuous if still getting regular (to the day) bleeds and obvious ovulation? I’m early 50s and hoped it would all be over by now.
