I just wanted to share my recent experience after I was switched to Gepretix from Utrogestan by my GP. I know we are told they are technically the same medication, just a generic brand alternative but I’ve just had the worst month of my life and wondered if I’m the only person who experienced this!
It had taken me over a year to get my dosage and combination of gel/capsules right and at the start of summer there I was feeling like it had finally slipped into place. The switch came with the assurances it was the exact same thing as Utrogestan and I shouldn’t notice any difference but within a few days I started to feel off.
Fast forward to one month later and I had period cramps, sore boobs (not had either of those in years), dizzy spells and visual migraines (zig zag auras). The brain fog came back with a vengance and I really had to concentrate on finding the words I needed. Night sweats and irritability came back too and I had no energy or enthusiasm for anything.
I really tried to ride it out in the hope it would settle down but my mood plummeted so low that I was starting to have suicidal thoughts. One panicked emotional call to my GP later and she put me back on Utrogestan (as well as a host of bloods to test for other things). Within a couple of days my mood has lifted and I can start to feel all the other symptoms ebbing too!
The only thing that changed was the switch from Utrogestan to Gepretix and it was such a drastic difference for me, that I am absolutely certain they are not identical. While the active ingredient may well be technically the same, whatever small differences there are in the manufacturing process or non-active ingredients they are most definitely not the same.
I’d just honestly love to know if anyone else has had a similar experience or if my body is just a bit of a drama queen!
