Long wait for NHS prescription

I get private health cover through my job so I saw a private consultant for my first HRT appointment. Received a private prescription for continuous HRT and was advised to go via NHS for future prescriptions. Letter was sent to GP surgery. When I contacted GP they had no record of letter so I sent it again and they referred me to menopause nurse. She requested the letter so I sent for the third time and then was offered an appointment for mid-August. This is 2 months after I first made contact and my current private prescription will have run out by then. What would people do in these situations. Just stop treatment? Go back to private consultant?

Private prescription until the nhs see you, assess you and may not agree with the script.

You'd normally get enough on the first private prescription to cover the potential hold up with the NHS. So you need to ask for another month or two.

3 months would be more usual and it's also good practice for the private consultant to review it then anyway.

You can also print off the letter and hand it in - assume you're emailing it- as it sounds as if they can't access or find it.

Your GP doesn't (legally) have to agree to prescribe.

Go back to your private consultant and request another prescription from them.
