Unexpected gushes of blood whilst on HRT.

I’ve been on HRT for four years. Im
on the sequential one of oestrogen patches across the month (Wednesday, Sunday) and 2 capsules of progesterone halfway through the month. I’m 51.

Over the last three months I’ve had two unexpected gushes of blood. No pain at all. I am on Wegovey which I know can make progesterone less effective.

Of course I’ve asked ChatGPT and it’s basically scared me my acting like I’ve got cancer. Anyone had similar?

Do you mean a heavy withdrawal bleed?Or bleeding outside the usual monthly bleed.

Depending on the patch dose you might need to increase the amount of progesterone from 200mgs to 300mgs for 14 days.

It's best to see your GP. It's highly unlikely to be cancer as you are using HRT, you normally have a regular withdrawal bleed and some bleeding (inbetween?) twice, is not likely to be serious.

The guidance is not one size fits all- you may have a scan, but they are not very accurate unless done straight after a bleed, when using sequential.

Or your GP could increase the progesterone dose.

You need to see the GP and expect you to have an ultrasound, with a hysteroscopy possibly. I had this and it was a polyp.

I do have a fibroid but it’s never given me any issues. From what I can make out these bleeds are called ‘unscheduled bleeds’. They tend to be a sudden gush and then that’s it. Everything carries on.

I’m pondering whether asking to go on a combined HRT patch. That sounds much easier.

You still need to see your GP and it's likely you will be sent for a scan.

Have you always had regular withdrawal bleeds?

Some women don't and then they have a natural period which comes outside the HRT cycle.
