Cramps and bowel spasms

I'm 49 and in the last few months my symptoms of IBS have gotten worse.
At the weekend I had awful anxiety followed by a really upset stomach then I started with pains in my pelvis and left sided tenderness. This carried on for a couple of days and slowly subsided but my pelvis was constantly cramping, whether I ate or not.

I went to the GP and they said IBS and maybe some diverticulitis. Three days after all this began I had some breakthrough bleeding - that's stopped now but my pelvis still feels crampy and it's painful when gas builds up.

I have a telephone appointment with the Menopause nurse this afternoon, is there anything I need to ask for?

I feel like I'm losing my mind, I'm hardly eating because I'm scared of the pains starting up again. The GP did give me a fit note for work for the week but I haven't sent it in yet and I have said I will try to return tomorrow but I honestly don't know if I'm up to it?

Has anyone else had anything similar in peri?

forgot to add I take Desogestrel mini pill.

It wasn’t as bad as you are describing but my digestive system went insane when I hit peri. I was either constipated or had diarrhoea, bloated, general misery. HRT brought it all under control for me. Hopefully you can get help also.

I am currently stuck at home with similar symptoms. I get bouts of IBS at times but it seems to be more often now I am peri. I am on a low dose of HRT (reduced it due to sore boobs) but my bowels are all over the place, severe constipation or I am glued to the toilet with cramps. The only thing I can put this bout down too is my diet, I have eaten a lot of gluten the past few days, also the end of term stress i get every year (having to be in ten places at once).

Today I am scared to eat. The pains I had this morning were awful, severe cramping every few minutes.

i don't think this is peri related. I handed in a FIT test yesterday that has already come back and it is abnormal.

You've had a FIT result back in 24 hours ?
And your GP isn't taking action???

If your FIT test is abnormal you need to ask for an urgent referral to a gastroenterologist and a possibly have a colonoscopy depending on what they decide..

IBS is an exclusion diagnosis, when everything else has been ruled out through investigations.

Is your GP not fast tracking this for you?
If not, you need to contact them and ask.
You might get more advice by posting this on General Health and asking what happens and how quickly after an abnormal FIT result.

The NHS website probably has info on this too.

I have another appointment with a GP tomorrow and I'm on 2 week pathway.
I only knew about this because I had a telephone appointment with another staff member about something unrelated and they said have you heard off anyone today re your results? She flagged it with the GP and within 5 minutes I had a call from the practice to book me in tomorrow.

That's good.
Hope it goes well for you and it's nothing serious.
