Nuffield Menopause Profile Test

Has anyone had any experience of the menopause profile blood test via Nuffield health?

If you have used this option did you have a consultation with the Nuffield prior or just pay direct for the test and take the results to your NHS GP to discuss medication needs?

I currently feel dismissed by my practice and feel like they have an agenda which they are wanting to push, which unfortunately I don't feel is the right option for me. I was hoping that having the tests results may back up my concerns and would possibly help my case. Of course they may come back and not validate my concerns too!

It's just that NICE meno guidance says blood tests are not needed for women over 45. Menopause is diagnosed on symptoms and during peri menopause blood tests are not accurate (they are a snapshot of one day.)

For women under 45 they are used mainly to exclude other conditions.

EDITED- the info from Nuffield, says there is a 45 minute consultation and it may include an FSH test. It doesn't look as if you can just have a blood test.

This ties in with my comments above.

It may be better to do some research online into the NICE guidance and use that as your discussion with your GP. Does that make sense?

Are they refusing HRT? Or do you want some other options/ outcome?

Thank you for responding. This is the link. The test can be booked without a consultation, I can book into my local hospital on Tuesday next week. Ive attached screen shots too which will need to be reviewed prior to showing.

How old are you, what symptoms do you have and what agenda do you feel your practice are pushing that you don’t want?

That blood test is fine but depending on your age some of it may be meaningless. Also HRT prescribing is largely done on symptoms and not results, especially when starting HRT.

That blood test is FSH, LH, E2 and thyroid function.

Depending on age and symptoms I’d also do other bloods.

I don't think it's going to be useful to be honest.

Tests are only done if you're under 45 (as I posted earlier.)
Thyroid is done to ruleout issues with that.

I think it's unethical for Nuffield to offer these because it's against NICE guidance for women over 45, the tests are not accurate in women in peri and GPs aren't necessarily going to take any notice.
Their advert doesn't give the other side - the inaccuracy and how HRT is prescribed.

What is your GP saying and what are you hoping a test will show?

It's £166 and if you want to use a private service, it is probably worth it to see a consultant or private GP qualified in menopause.
