First mammogram recall letter and waiting for breast clinic appointment

I have had the dreaded mammogram recall letter. Appointment at the breast clinic is next week. Anyone else in this boat and want to hold hands? I'm bricking it - and it was only my first ever screening.

Not in the same position but didn’t want read and run.

I know it won’t stop you worrying but from what I have read there is a higher rate of recall after first mammogram because they have no “baseline” images.

Hopefully your appointment comes through quickly.

Take good care.

Don't be anxious. I'm am nhs breastscreening manager in London . We recall approximately 10% of all women screened. The fact it's your first mammogram is a good thing as we dont know what's normal for you. You may have dense breasts, benign calcification, or it may have been positional. In which case another xray will rule things out.
You should have been given the option to call a breast care nurse before your appt if you're particularly anxious.
Try not to worry. First timers are our biggest cohort of recalls x

I got recalled first time for calcifications. They are very common. No sign of the cancer that then appeared a year and a half later. Then they took out the calcifications too but none of them were cancerous. It is really common to get a recall.

Post back if you need to after your assessment appointment and I'll help as much as I can.
I totally understand your anxiety.
Good luck xx

Thank you so much everyone. The letters from the NHS give statistics but that just seemed to panic me more. Despite myself I’m fearing ‘the worst’ even though I don’t even know what that is! It’s a proper scary time - and I really wasn’t expecting it (not that anyone probably is tbh).
