Hysterectomy and libido

After many years of menopausal problems (big and smallish), my (excellent) GP mentioned the possibility of a hysterectomy for the first time a few weeks ago. There are a number of pros and cons to consider and one of the most important for me is the possibility of a total loss of libido.

I read something online by a woman who had experienced this and was devastated by it - she hadn't been warned it might happen. I asked my GP about it and she said she doesn't have much anecdotal evidence as many women don't discuss this (with her? In general? Not sure).

Is there anyone here who has had a hysterectomy who could talk to me about this? Did you experience a loss of libido, did that change over time, if you did was there anything that could be done to address the issue? Or did this not happen to you at all?

I really want to make a fully informed decision and it's so hard when I haven't been able to find anecdotal evidence one way or the other! Huge thanks in advance if you're up for talking about this!

I had a full hysterectomy a year after my periods stopped. My libido was already lower anyway which I assumed was menopause. A few years later it is much better, and anyway I find that even if I don't feel like sex, I do once we get started so that's fine. My main problem is vaginal dryness, and I'm unsure if that was made worse by having my ovaries out which in hindsight I was unnecessarily pushed into.
It might be worth looking at hystersisters forum, many say to avoid it because it's mainly American and lots of people post with bad problems, but bear in mind that the majority who have hysterectomy without a problem don't post anything (I didnt because felt it made me look smug!).
