Unexplained bleeding

I’m in my early 50s and currently using estrogel alongside the mirena coil for HRT. I had my current coil fitted 14 months ago and it’s the 4th mirena I’ve had. Never had any issues with it previously, and no bleeding. Around 6 months ago I started having light spotting on and off with some mild pelvic discomfort.

The GP referred me for a pelvic ultrasound and I’ve been told there is nothing concerning, although apparently they struggled to get a clear view of my ovaries. I do have a small fibroid. I’ve basically been told to go back in 6 months if I’m still bleeding, but I’ve not been given any explanation for what’s causing it. I’ve made another appointment to see the GP as I’m really concerned it could be something sinister.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I’ve no idea if I’ve reached menopause as I’ve had the coil for so long and not had any periods (until now).

Every time I’ve had bleeding in the same regime it’s been a scan and a hysteroscopy

If periods have stopped for 2 yrs and then you get an out of the blue spotting
I thought it was the 2 week wait thing ?

when I had this I went for an hysteroscopy within 2 weeks

The thing is technically my periods haven’t stopped, I’ve been on the mirena for 16 years and had no bleeding previously. So I’ve no idea whether I’ve actually reached menopause, and I suppose it just could be down to hormones being all over the place. I’d just like some sort of explanation rather than just waiting for 6 months.
