Second episode of post menopausal bleeding

Hi everyone looking for a bit of a hand hold please. After no periods for 12 months I experienced an episode in the new year and was referred on the 2 week oncology pathway. My results were fine and I was told there was no cause for concern following the ultrasound and internal examination. However today I have started with another episode of bleeding. Is this normal in menopause? I’m 49 and starting to worry 😕

You're possibly not post menopausal.

The 12 months is a figure that's used for further investigations, but at 49 you're still a few years under the average age of menopause (51-52) so it's not impossible for your periods to come back. Not all women fit into the 12 months exactly, and as you had a scan only a few months ago they won't need to do another as it's only around 3 months since you had one.

I had 2 episodes of unexpected bleeding in perimenopause. One was definitely my period rebooting itself (had a “period” mid cycle and then my next period came a month later) and then another was maybe a slightly dodgy cervix. Had a uterine biopsy and a loop excision in my late 40s. All okay. You could ask to take something to basically dry up your periods because I think this odd pattern of bleeding is common but I found it very anxiety provoking.
