Everol Conti causing excessive bleeding. Please can someone advise what to try next?

Hi everyone. I'm hoping there's someone with knowledge of similar issues who can help? I've tried Everol Conti for the last 3 months and during that time, I've had 4/5 week long bleeds (like a period, but not massively heavy) and some further spotting in between.
The current bleed I'm experiencing is only a couple of weeks since the last one!

I know some bleeding is classed as "normal"for the first 3/6 months, but I'm coming to the conclusion that it's probably not suitable for me. Mine feels excessive.

I've an appointment with my GP next week. I really want to keep trying with HRT as it has hugely improved my sleep and the night sweats I was experiencing. Unfortunately my low libido hasn't improved, (not surprising with the bleeds), but if I can get the correct "method", maybe that will too. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I would prefer to stick with patches, purely for convenience, but think maybe an Estrogen only patch plus daily Utrogestan may be the way to go?.I'm 59 and definitely post menopausal, but I am late to HRT

Please help me if you can

It's unusual to have that amount of bleeding. You might ask about a scan or perhaps the Mirena coil might work better for you?
The progesterone in patches is stronger than Utrogestan, so it's unclear if that would work any better. It's just a case of trying it.

@JinglingSpringbells thank you for your reply.
I'll discuss the Mirena at my GP appointment. I'm going away on holiday soon, so I could really do to sort it out beforehand. The current regime I'm on is clearly not suitable

I had a lot of issues with bleeding and spotting with Evorel Conti. Switched to Evorel 50 (plain estrogen) patch with oral progesterone (Gepretix) and it all cleared up pretty swiftly. I guess the Norethisterone in the Conti wasn’t for me.

NattyKnitter116 · 27/04/2026 23:43

I reacted like this to Evorel, although mine was eastrogen only with separate progesterone pill. I upped the prohesterone, switched to Eastrogel , this all over a period of about a year but was still getting problems with bleeding (although nowhere near as badly as the initial period with Evorel where I was literally emptying a full mooncup every few hours and could hardly make it up the stairs). Like you I came late to the thing and started about 10 years after meno. What solved it for me was having a mirena coil and taking progesterone every other day. That seems to keep things on an even keel. I don’t have optimal levels of eastrogen because of the bleeding. It should be over 300 and it’s around 220, but it’s enough to prevent night sweats, brain fog and tendon issues so that’s good enough for me for now, although I may well end up having a hysterectomy anyway as have adenomysis. That means I no longer have to take progestins or worry about bleeding. Il haven’t rushed to do it because ultimately it’s surgery and there are risks

edited to add, I now use Sandrena which seems to work better for me than Esterogel. I think it might be because dose is more reliable. I always had trouble getting the pump to work with eastrobel.

@NattyKnitter116 thank you for replying. It really is a minefield of trial and error, isn't it? Looks like the mirena may be a good option.

I have answered on another thread but will repeat myself here!
Saw gp Wednesday as having a very regular pattern of spotting every 11 to 14 days ( after 5 weeks clear) on evorel conti. 4 months approx in. I thought gp would suggest carrying on for 2 more months but she didn't. She felt pattern too persistent. Also, my blood pressure high for me (usually normal but definitely a jump).
So, have my prescription of evorel 25 and 100 micronized progesterone which I shall start tomorrow to keep my usual patch change days. Review in 2 months.
Bit fed up of whole thing now. Really hope this works or may consider just coming off hrt.

Hi @EmeraldJeanie thanks so much for your update.
I'm at my GP appointment on Wednesday 6th. I'm hoping to switch to a 50 patch, plus Utrogestan and give that a try. Hopefully a different method will settle things down. I really want to continue as I'm sleeping so much better.
I'll let you know how I go.

P.S, I also have raised blood pressure and am also 60 next birthday... 😊

I don't know if this helps or not (possibly not!) but I bled for 3.5 months when I first went onto Elleste Duet.

Then, after 2 years they switched me to Elleste Conti and I bled again for exactly 3.5 months.

Both times it was just like a tap was switched off, the blood didn't even fade to a stop - it literally just stopped 😳

MeridaBrave · 04/05/2026 19:10

I have a Mirena (for years) so no bleeding. I also have evorel for estrogen and utrogestan (as I was having symptoms of low progesterone) and testosterone to help with the libido.

janeandmarysmum · 04/05/2026 19:12

I had a similar response to Evorel Conti and I also couldn't get on with the a patch. I'm now on Kliovance and it suits me very well.

LikeaHurricane · 05/05/2026 20:47

Unfortunately my GP appointment has been cancelled due to sickness. I'm going away on holiday imminently, so I'm not going to be able to see anyone or get anything sorted beforehand.
The person I spoke to on the phone did offer me a telephone appointment with a different doctor, but I said no, as I've had previous, useless dealings with that particular one.
@SandwichSuperstar, that's interesting....
All I can do right now is hope for a similar outcome!

That is really annoying @LikeaHurricane
I am spotting/ light so far... but only day 4 of new regime...
What with that and taking bp for 7 days bit fed up with my body!
Are you sure noone useful you can speak with from surgery?
Hope you manage to have a good holiday.

Hi, I also had this & the GP who put me on the 2 week wait pathway. It turned out that my endometrium had abnormal thickening so I got an urgent gynae consult. Gynaecologist said that the dosage should have been adjusted and put in a mirena. That was a couple of weeks ago and I’m still spotting. I’m hoping it will settle down but, if not, gynaecologist recommended lowering the dose.
