Peri menopause making 20 year old episiotomy scar hurt - is this normal?

I'm just about to turn 50 and for the past few months my old episiotomy scar has been aching every month during my period. It feels tender and like it's pulling a bit. This usually sorts itself out after a few days and goes back to normal, but this month for the first time it has happened when I'm not on my period (currently just over the mid point of my cycle) and it's worse! It's aching badly, and when I sit down I get numbness and horrible tingling in that area. Driving is really uncomfortable!
I am assuming this is caused by a drop in oestrogen at this time in my cycle and I'm planning on going to my GP next week, but is this normal in peri? I'm not on any HRT as i haven't really had any other menopause symptoms apart from the odd missed period. Would oestrogen cream help with this? I'm going on holiday soon and I'm panicking a bit about not being able to sit down comfortably!

Yes vaginal estrogen cream is very likely to help with this.

It won't address any of the systemic consequences of menopause though so it is worth considering whether you want to treat the whole, not just the hole.

Yes my scar pain appeared at the same time as other peri symptoms. Estrogen cream sorted it out 100%. Wonderful stuff

I'm open to taking HRT tablets or patches - I just haven't really had to think about it yet as I haven't had any other symptoms so far. I expect that will change soon though...
